I’ve noticed how effective these can be at getting my attention when the vehicle in front of me brakes, so I’m thinking about throwing a couple on my brake lights (can’t see my third atm so not worried about that one). But, I’ve read a couple posts where people have had no-start issues after swapping out bulbs so I’m a bit hesitant. Has anyone installed a flasher / strobe module on their third gen?

Thinking of this one (I’ll need one for each lamp right? Or can I tap into the circuit farther upstream and only use one?):

My third flashes and its stock...I think I did that when I was poking around in techstream and forgot. Just noticed it a week or so ago

Edit: it was most likely added by the dealer before I purchased it, not sure why though

I wonder if there’s a setting for all of them...

Strobes/pulsating lights are illegal for on-road vehicles in most places. Be sure before going through with it. I've never seen that function on any toyota in Techstream customization.

I agree it grabs attention, I like it on motorcycles.

For what it's worth, I have that on mine and I hate it. If you have a rack on your bed you'll get a really annoyed splash and you'll see it in your rear view mirror at night. I bought my truck used and the p/o had it on. I plan on deleting it when I get time.

I’m happy to consume a bunch of nanny-state dollars for the price of a $10 fix-it infraction.

OP I have the same module on my motorcycle. It’s really easy to program and has a ton of features. On a truck.. I’m not sure I’d do it.

What if I told you it’s bulbless...

Fine. The diodes. I’ll pull the :censored:in’ diodes. Or put some electrical tape on them. Or let them corrode in all the rain water that gets in.

    Point taken. :cookiemonster::D

Hmmmm. Why not? I’m just trying to get people off my tail...(I drive like your great great grandmother on a steam powered horseless carriage).

    Bump. Still considering this.

Do these modules just get spliced into the positive wire to the lamp, or?

Considering the lack of understanding of basic physics so many drivers demonstrate, I’m not confident they’re literate.

Another thing I’ve thought of doing just for shits and giggles is putting a length of steel bar under the back of the truck on lever a somehow, that drops the back end of the bar down to the road to throw sparks. Behind the fuel tank of course. Could be spring assisted for maximum effect.

Would have a reverse gear lockout.

I drive a dump truck with a GVWR of 60,000lbs. I'm the slowest guy on the road AND I throw rocks at other drivers and I STILL get tailgaters like a mofo.

My suggestion is just learn to not let it bother you. Flashy lights won't make any difference.

Which lights are you planning on putting this on?
The third brake or your regular lights?

Something to consider is incandescent bulbs have a slower start time (like the ones you have in the tail lights)

This might not even work on those because the pulse might be too quick and barely show a flashing brake light.
Think of when idiots put cheap led bulbs in their signal then they get the hyper flashing.
It's because the pulsing voltage the makes your signal flash is actually much faster than it appears to flash because of the slight delay for the filament to heat up and give off light. But with an LED it's more instantaneous hence causing the hyper flashing.

I think most of those modules for pulsing brakes are for led. So if you aren't putting them on led might not really work.

Best bet is just change lanes. I don't get why people tailgate when you're in the slow lane. It's like they just want to make you move its not about actually passing.

Although I feel the flashers might be better at getting the attention of a distracted driver instead. But as you said will likely do nothing to stop tailgating

2 lane roads where I work. Fast lane, slow lane, all the same lane.
