Anyone have any experience with Car Lighting District headlights? These came up as a sponsored link on Instagram and are plug and play with ballasts.

Ah yes! I almost just sent you a PM regarding this instead of the thread. I remember you saying that about the LEDs but with the ballasts I thought that this was like the HID's. Or are HIDs just bright LEDs?

LEDs do not use a ballast, they are likely using the wrong terminology and talking about the driver which is not confidence inspiring. The design is a very dated one with oversized chips that do not even attempt to mimic a filament and provide no attempt at a glare guard in design. Charging $135 for that is pretty absurd.

LEDs and HIDs are very different. An LED is a solid state semiconductor chip that emits directional light when voltage is applied to it. HIDs are a bulb with 2 electrodes spaced apart in a gas chamber that when very high voltage is applied from the ballast causes an electrical arc to jump the gap, creating an omnidirectional light source.

Well that for sure sets me straight. And answers my question. These bulbs are a no good. I appreciate your well informed and no bullshit answers. Thank you!

What is your opinion of the spyder headlight assembly? My housing are all frosted/yellowed so I was thinking about just getting a whole new set up.

High wattage H4's will outperform any of that stuff and not change the light pattern.

Spyder housings are terrible, they are well known to leak and fill with water as well as provide poor pattern. Your headlight assembly is extremely important as the entire quality of your beam pattern is based on having a quality optic. Number 1 quality optic above all is Toyota. So if you care anything about performance OEM is by far the way to go.

Very good to know! I’ll just continue to be on the lookout for some fresh 05-11 housings and follow your guidance in your thread. Thanks!
