Hey guys- New to the page.

I am currently running ditch lights on my Tacoma but am wanting to install a light bar as well. I am just curious on if I HAVE to install a second relay for the light bar on top of my relay for the ditch lights. Or, if I can use the one that is already installed? And if so, how?

Are you adding a light bar to the ditch light circuit or will the light bar be on it's own circuit?

what is a circuit? Like I said, i’m a complete newb with this stuff.. I just have the basic wiring harness installed. + & - wires installed on the battery with a fuse on the positive wire, a relay, a ground wire, and a switch.

Do you want a LED bar to come on with the ditch lights? Or do you want the LED bar on a separate switch?

Okay. So the LED bar will have it's own switch. The LED bar that you get should come with a relay that you can wire up for the install. I say should as it depends on the size of the LED bar. My 40" bar has a relay, but my 20" bar doesn't.

Okay thank you! I’m planning on getting one for my bumper - 30”-32”. Should I just install a relay to be safe?

Then you'll need a separate relay.

If you wanted them together... Heres the info I would need: What kind of lights are you running (aka how much draw are you experiencing), and what is the capacity of your relay? In terms of strictly capacity you probably have enough headroom to run both through one relay, but I cant recommend it on a basic relay anyway. Also, light brands vary wildly based on efficiencies.

Just be thankful that youve at least done enough research to know that you need a relay. We'll help you with what you need. This place has some knowledgeable people on... Just about everything.

I would say any bar over 20" should have a relay to be safe.

While I wont prompt a paranoia attack if you follow the guidance that you state here I would be weary of making a practice of running power hot directly through a switch, regardless of light size. In my youth I personally experienced a couple of in cab flame ups thanks to some HIDs running directly through a switch that couldn't hang.

Just as a quick example - Rigid E-Series Pro in 20" configuration pulls ~24amps @ 12v. The Contura X Series of switches that a bunch of us use are rated for 20amps @ 18v. You can see where the math starts to get a little sticky, especially if you start adding additional accessories to the same switch. I'll always guide someone to run a relay rated for their application. It's cheap insurance, and good practice IMO.

    :)

    Correct.

I have everything running on a fuse block so I blow a fuse first and not a truck.

if im running just some cheap knock of light bars and pod lights do I have to worry about that? Even with my wiring harness having a fuse within it?
