truck detail.jpg This happened three or four years ago, when I was snow-blind from losing my sunglasses down the side of a snowy mountain. When I got home, I scraped the side of a brick wall which was pained white.

Any ideas on how you guys would get this cleaned out?

    Thanks. Detailing Newbie....

@grubburg Looks like a deep scrap. Is it on the metal body or plastic fender?

if it were just a scratch, i'd put shine over it. however, i'm worried about how to get the white brick substance out before putting the clear coat shine over it.

If you can feel with a fingernail it can't or shouldn't be removed.

so then the white substance is stuck in the grey paint forever?

I should have specified-- a SCRATCH can't be removed if you can feel with fingernail.

The transfer of white stuff maybe can be removed. I'd be concerned about dislodging the debris and spreading it around though. Hmm...

Try a clay bar, then compound and finish polish. That will remove, reduce and minimize the damage. Like has been said upthread, if you can feel it with a fingernail you will not be able to remove the scratches.
Possibly lightly wet sanding, then compounding and polishing could give acceptable results.

I'd get some scratchX and use it as a "cleaner" on a microfiber pad to see if I could manually remove some of the white stuff. Then finish with a DA. I'd aim for improvement and live with what remains. Don't blow through the clear by going for 100% correction.

DA polisher and some simple final polish.

You will only be able to make it look better but the larger scratches will not be fixable without a repaint.

It should clean it up fine though.

I had a similar scratch caused by a tree branch. I would hand wash the area, then use a clay bar and lubricant to remove the white substance. If the scratch is deep as in through the clear coat into the base paint then it needs a repaint http://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/toyota/2016/tacoma/ is highly recommended here on TW. If not some rubbing compound and a coat of wax will suffice.

    Just remember :itllbuffout:
