Sunday will be a fun "play in the snow" day

It'll work fine. Set the welder for in between like 3/16 start in the thicker plate and drop into the thinner. If you could find some scrap 3/8 and 1/8 you could pratice your settings on that first. Everybody has a different way to do it. Just have fun playing with it and you'll figure it out. You can always do multiple passes as well.

 

Ill get off work sunday morning at 0600, if i get relieved that is. If not ill be stuck until someone gets here. Hopefully VA dot takes care of blue mountain, because that will not be fun driving up or down.

 

What is playing in the snow? I have to report for work at 12 tomorrow. If we get the 4-7 they are calling for up there now I probably won't get to come home until Monday night. It'll be all OT from noon tomorrow until 6:30 am Monday though.

 

OH, I thought Randy got a new 220 machine. Well you can still get some practice plates and try it.

 

Thanks Chris I appreciate the words of wisdom. That was my plan was to focus on the thicker plate and wick it into the thinner stuff but was unsure on settings. I’ll take your advice! It’ll be one of my first projects messing with gas so I’m excited. Only done flux up to this point.

 

Aha you have gas! Lol just remember 2 things. Make sure the steel is clean I.E. rust free. With flux core you pull to you as in stick welding with gas you push. Now you will have to be a bit more concious of a breeze as it can blow the gas away and cause porosity. If you have vertical welds your best penetration is alwas up not down. Down gives very little penetration depending on how you do it, OK that's more than 2 things sorry.
