How long of a trip do people typically look for (including to/from travel)? Should the route be pre-run or is exploring a route through an area ok (i.e., route may not make it through to the other side as thought and necessitates turning around)? I have a few ideas in mind for planning a route but not sure how long to plan it for? Are people only looking for jeep trails or dirt roads and county roads work fine?

Since @SGT Taco and @MojaveMadman left, nobody outside of Tom or myself has taken the initiative to try and organize a trail run. That being said, it's good to see some guys like yourselves who are new to the thread and interested in getting out. I think it would be awesome to see others lay out some trip plans and invitations.

From my experience, people will make time for day trips. 2 hours, one way, from ABQ or less. The only longer trips I have seen garner interest are the ones to Ouray or Moab. Basically big name destinations that people want to get under their belt. Some of the trips that I have posted I pre-ran solo just to get a feel for the place, others were new to all, including me. I wouldn't say pre-running is necessary at all, but if you are going to lead the trip, do your research and study maps beforehand so you can lead effectively. Getting lost is half the fun, so don't worry if things don't go as planned... that's where it becomes a real adventure. As far as trail difficulty, I'd say anything goes, but you'll find that those with newer rigs usually won't be game for the harder trails where things get broken or dented up. Also, some own 2WD rigs.

When I post runs I've historically had limited interest, even though there are lots of guys who say they want to get out on the trail. Frankly it's a little discouraging. Don't get me wrong, I want to thank the guys who have shown up, made the time, and shared the experiences... you all know who you are. I'm just saying, be prepared for crickets if you post a trail run in here.

The brewery meets are nice for talking trucks and meeting new people, but I would much rather spend a Saturday taking a ride than wasting my day at a brewery. Let's have that beer on the trail overlooking a remote NM vista with dirt under the tires.

I haven't given up on this group, and am curious to see if all the big talk in the other thread amounts to anything. When the next run gets posted we'll see who shows up.

I don't live in NM, but I am only 14 miles away. That being said, if there are planned trips West or South West of Albuquerque I am up for them. And if there is an interesting enough trail up North, I may even be able to find the time to travel up that way. I am up for day trips or an overnighter or two as well.

What Nick (BigFishAllDay) said. To add, due to time commitments most peeps can get away for a day trip. Even something as simple as getting out to Rio Puerco for an afternoon can be challenging but there has been good turn-out in the past. Also, there are folks here willing to chance exploratory trips but the well-known with a clear destination tend to be more popular. Finally, there is a wide interest in various terrains all the way from rock-crawling to tripping the forest service roads. Best advice is to post something up and make sure everyone knows what they are choosing to get into.

I'm looking to plan and run an overnight trip this summer, being my first. Slowly been working on the camping setup for the FJ which I want to test out. Need to start working my mapping/navigation/planning skills. Nick puts me to shame with his.

I hear you on that! I'm down for day trips or overnighters...definitely don't need to go up to Moab or Ouray, I'm more looking to explore Northern NM since I just moved here. I'm out for a good adventure, to explore, see some beautiful nature, and chill in the woods instead of indoors in front of my computer (i.e. my day job). Would love to go places with fly fishing if anyone else here is into that, and just generally love camping.

I would say a 2 hour radius is probably pretty accurate for one-way travel, although I'm down to go further if I know what we're going after. Since my truck is brand new I'm definitely wary of trail conditions and would much prefer to have a general idea of the terrain before we go. I'm much more up for FS roads and am not into crawling at all. Dents and broken parts...NAH! I'm looking for a second rig for that shit!

Will be interested to see if/when a trip gets posted...I would lead but I literally have been here 2 weeks and am just now comfortable navigating around town with no GPS...damn Google Maps ruined everything.

No problem turning around, and I'm up for any FS/dirt/country roads, not really into the rough trails with my new whip

They don't call me BigFishAllDay for nothin'! I know where to find them, and love to catch them. Having two kids has cut into my time on the water, but I know the waters of northern NM very well and would be glad to put you on some spots.

LOL, seriously though, that sounds amazing! I'll get my lady to watch your kids and buy the snacks and drinks and let's GOOOOOOOO!

Would love to do some overnighters/weekend trips to remote areas to camp and fish :militarypress:
