My latest project is a set of puddle lamps(or "courtesy lights")
As much as I love the Tacoma, it lacks basic luxury features(even my Rav 4 and 4 Runner have them!) Passenger side smart handle, etc, etc. I've been running some on mine for a while, and I love them. It's a small addition, but once you are use to them there's no going back.

So I decided to do what I do best and MOD IT. First was coming up with some concepts and 3 guidelines:

1)PnP- (plug and play) so NO modifications would be necessary to the vehicle
2)FORM -As low profile and stealth as possible
    3)FUNCTION-Gotta be bright!

LED: It was time to pick a light. I went through several candidates and ended up with VLED's "PUDDLE LIGHT". It boasts some pretty high lumen specs, super low profile, and perfect for my build. The only downside was its large O.D, but I can get over that.

Placement: I played around with an entire lower (outer) replacement mirror plastic but it was just too large of a piece to make, so I moved to the inner cover(which is a just a snap cover that hides the power mirror wires). This seemed like the ideal spot because there was ample room in the cavity. Next was to angle the light outwards and back a few degrees. This also puts light where you need it(ground) and not where you don't(glaring off the door).

    On to the pics:D:

My prototype was handcrafted, then I 3D scanned it so all dimensions, and mounting tabs were as good as OEM

    Then on to test fit.

As you may notice, the mirror has a "body line" which I tried to carry into my design. But there's only so much I can do. :/

Side+Back. For a 2" Light, I think it tucks up fairly well.

    BONUS:

Next to my 4 runner prototype :D

Don't mind the Primer color, it's merely a rapid proto. Next up is to 3D print the housings and throw them on some test vehicles! Stay tuned for some installed and light output pics:bananadance:

I'm getting all the loose ends figured out, but I will be doing a "T" harness that plugs right into the drivers side A pillar connector(which has the dome circuit needed). Then extensions to each door. The extensions will also have a few additional wires for "future mods" AKA V5 turn signals:D
    Thanks!
    IDK yet..?

I’d be more then happy to let you use my vehicle as a test vehicle. Love this mod. I miss having them on my 4runner that I gave to my wife.

That’s pretty beautiful. Looks kind of like a robotic eye o_O

But the real question is how/where would you run the wires?

Edit: I didn’t see your post about running the wires when I wrote this
