I selected a 5 speed for my new truck, a 2014 RC 4 cylinder. While I am happy with my decision, working that shifter is like stirring chocolate pudding in a bowl.

Granted, my reference point is a '95 Trans Am 6-speed with a Hurst shifter. But still...

Combined with a clutch that doesn't grab until the pedal is 90% released, it's not especially a pleasant experience.

    It's a truck.

I like my man trans Taco. It's way sportier than the one ton trucks and Freightliner I used to drive.

I think the shifter has a rubber peice to stop it from rattling as much if you lug the motor or something. Maybe get an aftermarket shifter without that and itll be tighter. It probably wont be like your trans am since both vehicles were built for much diffrent uses and to diffrent price points.

It's a giant list of links to different transmission problems and answers to them. You should be able to find a solution to your problem in there.

Awesome CB setup, TRD leaf springs, matching camper shell...more to come some day.
Perhaps the truck is do for a trans oil change. Redline MT-90 is the preferred gear oil for our transmissions by many TW members.

No problem shifting mine and don't know what you mean - stirring chocolate pudding???? - after all it is a truck not a car and you get used to the clutch releasing at the end of travel - all Tacoma's with hydraulic clutches seem to do this. You could possibly adjust your clutch pedal so that it has more free play and so releases at halfway mark but it may mean clutch not disengaging as fully when depressed.

do the 5speeds have an accumulator ? removal of this could make pedal feel better.

Happy with my 2012 2.7 MT. My previous MTs were a 2000 f150 and a 99 subaru legacy.

Shifts well and the 4banger does fine for me and my daily mountain commute to and from work.
