    Hi Everyone,
I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma that didn’t come with the JBL Audio System. However I recently purchased a stock JBL Head unit from a 2006 Tacoma and I’m wondering if it will plug into my truck’s harness or if there is a difference between stock JBL Head unit versus the stock head unit. I’m also wondering if the amp is part of the head unit or if there is a separate amp for the door speakers. I’m also interested in some stock JBL door speakers. Thanks and I hope to see a reply.

Very different plugs, very different wiring.
And the jbl speakers are 2ohm which most radios (including your current radio) won’t work with. They’re normally powered by the factory jbl amp so they wouldn’t sound very good anyway. The amp is separate from the radio and the amp is controlled by a data signal from the jbl radio that your radio doesn’t have, and wiring that doesn’t exist.

In my 2015 the JBL system has it's own amp & there are some differences in the wiring, but I can't say about the connectors... The power connector is probably the same.

Even the power is different. None of the connectors are the same. It’s very annoying as an installer when a client brings in the normal harness and you tell them they actually need the $150 smart harness, and there’s no way to make due without it

The JBL system is an abomination.

Thanks for the reply I appreciate it. Also I was wondering if I used a radio unit from a 2009 Tacoma with the disc-aux button which kit would I need to make aux work or can I just buy an aux cable that has the factory plug to aux like somebody did on here that I read. Also the amp is built into the normal non JBL radios correct? What’s involved in making satellite radio work on the 2009 radio? Thanks

If your truck doesn’t have aux, it’s not easy to get it. There’s a whole separate wiring harness that plugs in containing the aux wires and steering wheel control wires.

On non-jbl radios, the amp is built in to the radio. It’s crappy though for sure. 3-5 watts per channel.

No way to make sat radio work because the tuner is built in to the radio itself.
No tuner = no sat radio.

If the radio already has the xm tuner built in, you just need a generic xm antenna

Thanks, do you know if I can buy that harness? Or what I need to do to be able to have aux with the stock head unit? I have researched gta car kits and USA spec but I got mixed reviews and they are expensive just to have auxiliary function.

I’d just get something like the iSimple TranzIt or TranzIt BLU HF. They go in-line with the antenna so nothing complicated and they work well
