Greetings all. I've a 2004 PreRunner with 209K miles on her. I have been wrestling with buying a newer 4WD model, as I live in NC, and have run into snow here that has stopped me in my tracks. Has anyone tried the plastic strap-on "cleat-type" traction devices to get them out of a jam in the snow? I can't really justify the expense of a newer vehicle just to get four wheel drive. And, I really don't want a truck payment again. . . .

As for the Pre-runner problem... I'm in the same boat. I love my truck, don't want to get a different one, haven't had to make a payment on mine in over 10 years... Would lose money selling mine and trying to by a similar one in 4x4 (if I could find one that I wanted, like mine)

So... Here's how I'm solving my problem.

WOW. Well, good sir. . . that is WAY beyond my capabilities and budget. I'm going to gamble a few bucks and try the strap-on (!) type of snow-cleats to see how they work if and when it snows again here. Best of luck on the 4WD upgrade! Looks like you know what you're doing for sure!
