Tailgate makes a loud noise when auto locked and unlocked

just bought a new taco , and noticed the tailgate makes a loud noise when auto locked and unlocked? is that normal?

 

What? My 2019 4x4 trdoffroad doesn’t have auto locking tailgate
Lucky you. What package does that come with?!

 

I think it's regional. My '18 came with it.

As far as the OP's question, mine sounds like a door locking. Just a clunk when it actuates.

 

It's the Pop n Lock that they port installed. No worries, the "clunk" is normal.

 

Local dealers in NC add the auto locking tailgate at Port.

 

I added an actuator and it is pretty loud. I put some sound deadening material around it and it helped a little. It would be easy to add if you wanted to give it a try. There are some threads around here which show how to install.

I think South East Toyota adds a few different things to their trucks at the Port.

 

Yep, SE region port installs a $90 component (Amazon price) and charges $300 +/- for it... crazy add-ons in that region.

 

Yeah, I guess the fact that there's no insulation or dampening in the tailgate, makes it a lot louder than an interior door.

Yeah I notice how loud it is myself. I am about to put a mile worth of sound deadening in it all around. It will help with all the road noise. My truck is from NC.

 

Mine was factory installed, does not make a noise any louder than my wife's Prius tailgate when locking the vehicle. The tailgate lock makes just enough sound for me to know it's secure when I lock the truck via the driver side door handle.
