with rocks and shelves like what I've seen pictured on both, I'll take the flat one (Holcomb) over the long continuous climb. Knowing what I usually run into trouble on without a front locker, it's usually rocky/loose climbs.

Let me know as well. Should be in the house by then and be able to wheel again.
My dad would probably like to go as well.

Heartbreak is fun, and easy. Used to be harder till someone filled in a few section. Make sure you run the whole trail to the top, passing the Pontiac on the way

yeah I've been meaning to do it for awhile, just haven't gotten around to it...always end up defaulting to White or Gold Mountain for the scenery. But I suspect after this week's storms, the whole mountain will be covered in snow so Heartbreak should be just as good, and a little more challenging which is always welcome.

Looking forward to this run. Should be a lot of fun. Excited to run around in some snow, even if I am unlocked, lol

We were considering throwing in some Holcomb Valley Trail, if time allowed as well.

Yeah we'll definitely hit up 3N16/Holcomb Valley to get to Coxey Rd and take that back down, or at least take it over to Green Valley Blvd where it meets the highway halfway down the mountain on the way home, and avoid as much traffic as possible.

What trails you hitting up on Monday? Wish I had that day off but we don't

What about Sidewinder Canyon? Was just reading up on Heartbreak Ridge on Trailsoffroad.com and came across that one nearby it, marked as slightly more difficult. Pretty short, 1.5 miles. Anyone here done it?

Its not bad, just off camber ina few spots. These two trails are constantly changing year to year. Ran heartbreak in June and the lower half had huge v notches washed out in the trail whereas the year before it was relatively flat. The upper half (aka Pontiac sluice, the loop whatever you wanna call it) used to be slightly more challenging but when I went last it was cake walk

Cool thanks for the info...just looking to see what's around there since Heartbreak is actually not as close to Big Bear as I had thought it was (I thought it went up to the top near Big Bear Lake for some reason, looks like it's more south/east and you have to take the highway to BB afterward). Will probably look for other routes to get into the town after we finish Heartbreak to avoid the highway

You don’t need to take the highway for more than a few minutes, there are a few ways to exit heartbreak/burns canyon. Hop on the 18 for a few minutes then either head up gold mountain or the Far East side of Holcomb valley. Take Holcomb valley all the way to gvl, bam that’s a full day

Last weekend when we were up in BB, I heard on their local radio that they were expecting good snowfall at 5000 ft with the storms this week

It has mostly been rain and a small amount of wet snow. The storms are on the warmer side.

General rule of thumb I’ve noticed for Thomas mountain/ idyllwild. They typically get 1/2 whatever BB gets. Sometimes less
Should we have a anniversary date at Thomas mountain, the first time I laid my eyes on your ugly ass hahaha
