So, I'm looking for some help moving my fog light switch from a command strip on my steering column to an actual in-dash button..

This is what the inside of the current switch looks like:
    49649167_2226716490902231_60925407014242_7d3617b96525fdde5fb2a5918f58a24075b97f4d.jpg

I'm trying to figure out which wire is which and how I would wire it up to one of these properly. I was thinking that red was positive, black was negative, and white was ground... I can post more pictures of the current switch if need be.

    Any help is appreciated.

    I love you,

    Ian

    This is what they are.
You would use red as source on the new switch and the white towards the relay. On that AirOnBoard switch I believe is Green with Yellow to the Red and Red with Yellow to the White.

One funny thing about LEDs is wire color coding. In almost every "standard" 12 volt DC wiring configuration I've ever worked on, red is hot and black is ground. (White can be any number of things.) But with LEDs, they seem to have tossed convention out the window. Most LED's I've installed have white as ground and black as hot. I know not why.

Fear not though. You only have three wires and you probably only have three because you have a lighted switch - which requires a ground. And all LED's are polarity sensitive. So what you have is a hot coming in, a switched hot going out and a ground. The wiring diagram provided above may very well be correct, but if it isn't - and you don't get lights when you hook it up - you can come back to this post and make appropriate changes.

The switch I have now is lighted. When headlights are on it lights up green and when I click the switch and actually turn the fog lights on, it switches to amber.

I'll go with the above post and hopefully that works, I'm just pretty wary about electrical stuff, especially on autos. I don't wanna screw anything up/fry anything.

Just remember the first rule of electricity. Everything electrical runs in smoke. If you let the smoke out, it won't work anymore. And all of us that have done any wiring have let he smoke out at one time or another.

What would make your task a lot easier is a wiring diagram from whomever originally supplied the lights. Any chance of digging one of those bad boys up? The second best thing is having somebody with some wiring experience take a quick look at it to verify that the advice you have already been provided here is indeed correct. And we're not talking rocket science either. There's only 3 wires.

So my wiring experience and advise on this particular simple electrical issue is incorrect because?

Not saying your wiring expertise or advice was wrong. Just noting that many LEDs do not use standard wiring color codes. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.
