I just picked up a used '09 access cab with the off road package. It comes with the basic sound system and a built in sub in the back.

The sub rattles like crazy, any idea on what is causing this and how to fix it? I know its not a great sub, but I don't want to look into aftermarket options at this time.

    Thanks!

You are the person that is most capable of finding the rattle since it is your truck and you can inspect it in person to chase down this noise. Without being there it is not possible for us to find it for you.

    Step 1: Make it rattle
Step 2: Locate the rattle location using your ears
Step 3: Push on whatever is rattling to see if the noise goes away
Step 4: Tighten or insulate whatever you found rattling to prevent it from perpetuating.

    Good luck.

It could be blown. That little stock sub has a carbord cone, carboard cone's rip easily. You will never know what the owner did with that sub, he might of played music too loud and blew it and never thought about because he was gonna sell it.
