No I seen that, I meant if he can’t consistently cover it. Of course dad’s credit will take a hit, credit is very dependent on on-time payments.

Agreed about the responsibility, wasn’t saying he gets a pass. Just making the point that they probably wouldn’t have helped get the loan if they couldn’t cover it themselves. Could be because he becomes a meth addict or ends up in the hospital. Good or bad reason doesn’t matter, I’m sure the folks planned for contingencies.

I don't think there's any possibility of him becoming a meth addict.
But he could get hit by a bus.

I would assume so. At least how they drive here.

Ok Op it’s decided- you must now become a methyl bus driver to confirm our theory that your parents can take over truck payment and be happy with a new truck.

It is the forum rules, you HAVE to do what the majority says.

    Do not make that assumption.

I know people who have cosigned over a hundred thousand in student loans for their kids in their late 40s.

Untill that loan is gone they can’t claim SS.

    People make unwise decisions everyday.

After all this guy co-signed a $40k loan for an 18 year old. I’m not going to assume there is any sort of common sense logic coming from them on financial decisions.

OP, I’m not saying this to beat up on anyone. I have genuine concern for you in the situation.
If it were my son I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.

When I was 18 I thought I was a genius and had the world figured out. I just have to laugh at "I make bank", no you don't. Good luck with the truck I wish you the best, but don't fool yourself kid you have a lot of living to do.

And you're now over 18, so the forum membership cannot be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Good point. Educated guess would be a better term. Kid seems to have at least a decent head on his shoulders financially, if everything stated is true. Generally at 18 that comes from the parents.

The jealousy is strong here. Let the guy enjoy his new truck and don't worry that he has more than you did at his age...

I think the majority of responses weren't out of jealousy in any way. Most are genuine tips and concerns from people who have more financial experience than an 18 year old.

I will admit, my dad is pretty laid-back but he is worried for my well being. When the girl crashed the truck a couple of months ago, I told him sorry even when it wasnt my fault and he said “I dont care about the car, I just care about your well being.” I never cry but i cried that day. I have to text him “I’m home dad” every night. I dont have a curfew but I do get home before 11pm because i dont want him to worry. My mom is the strict one.

So after all this....what’s the Tacoma from a teenagers prospective?

All I got was some gloating about how you’re making bank and driving a new Tacoma. I’m not gonna beat you up in this thread, or try to give you some fatherly intuition. Just trying to figure out what that perspective really might be, because not once have you really talked about anything relevant to the title you posted.

I would never raise a child to go into debt to buy a car.
If my kid wanted to do that he better make damn sure he can buy rent and living expenses ontop of the truck payment because he wouldn’t be in my house.

Of course I would be terrified to have an 18 year old kid whos a server going $40k in debt to buy a truck.
Anyone whos not concerned about that is out of their mind.

    This.

It’s the best vehicle ever. My friends love it because it’s smooth and decently fast for a pickup and because it’s manual. I love it for everything
