So I am going back and forth with a snugtop hardshell with sportsman package to run an RTT on and a softopper with some sort of rack system over it for RTT. The topper is going to be for gear, luggage, and now a new yellow lab puppy when we go out places. I have the lady and two kids so the cab is full. We snowboard and all that so I need something to keep stuff out of the weather.

My question is about racks for over the softopper. I have searched here and seem to only come up with the SOS one and the Dissent one. Not a fan of the SOS version and the dissent one is just too much rack for my needs. I would like something easily removable for when i a,m not running the tent. A simple two or three bar rack that fits tight to the softopper. Are the sos and dissent ones my only real options out there?

I just saw a post by RickyTaco77 where he makes a RTT rack to fit under the softopper. Unfold the topper to raise the tent.

It's an interesting idea, or it would be if I were into RTT's.

Love my soft topper, but take it off in the winter. It’s my understanding the rear window will get brittle in the cold and may crack.

Just like our softtop Jeep Wrangler (I know, a house divided) those plastic windows are very brittle in freezing temps and as they get older can just shatter. That's why "I" have a Tacoma :D

Didn’t Softopper or someone like them have a harder, thicker frame that would hold like 300lbs?

I'm not too concerned about the windows as I live in San Diego so temps are pretty consistent. I have seen rickytaco's post on the under rack but for me that makes zero sense. I need the bed space for gear and the dog. I already purchased a CBI bedrack prior to knowing we were getting a puppy. It is still being built and supposed to be delivered at the end of the month so i am going to have to put that up for sale.

Have you considered putting the tent over the cab? Your rack solution would be far cheaper that way and you'd still keep full side access to the topper while camping
