I appreciate that but who am I, Ponce de Leon? All I'm saying is that snow barely supported my weight and it was dangerously cold, if I had to walk for help I'd be a permanent elevation marker.

    -"and there's the asshole"
    -"oooohhhh"

I love exploring and I'm not Ponce either.

I carry cold weather clothing just in case all winter and food, snowshoes, etc. if in the mountains. Hiking a few miles out wouldn't be a big deal. Further than that, I'd set up camp and enjoy. Good way to get out of work.

Wife and I used to live in Glendale before moving back east for work. I left a big piece of my heart in Arizona. We got up to Sedona everytime we had the chance. I proposed to her while we were standing on top of Fay Canyon Arch. We hiked all around Sedona and Flagstaff during those three years. My Dad and I hiked Bear Mountain in Sedona on one day and then down to Horseshoe Mesa the next day on a spur of the moment decision when plans to do Humphrey's peak were scuttled due to a late season snow.... I could go on and on. Arizona is my own Heaven on Earth. It's a minor tragedy that I wasn't into wheeling back then.

Loved the video and am glad it turned out ok. The forest is stunningly beautiful. And to think I was all proud of myself for finally getting my truck out in 6 inches of snow this weekend. Lol.Screenshot_20190115-125739_Photos.jpg

I agree. There is no shame in shitting ones pants. If we all did it more often, the world would be a better place. Instead, we stay hunkered down in our safe places.

Dude, I'm quite sure I have done and will still probably do stupider shit than this here little excursion.
For example, when I was in college, I helped another guy do some trapping. This was my "job" while I was going to university.
One Saturday afternoon, my task was to go check several Beaver traps, except the roads looked similar to yours. I went as far as I could and then hiked about a mile out through the woods to a specific beaver pond.
When I got there about 3 PM I decided it was a good idea to cross the frozen pond instead of hiking around it to check the trap. Boy I felt stupid when I went through the ice into water up to my armpits.
There you go. 3 PM, a weekend, a couple feet of snow, I'm a mile off the dirt road that nobody can use and standing in ice water up to my armpits I knew I was the dumbest person in the world.
See, you feel pretty smart now right?

Well that is a great story, but does it truly qualify for the dumbest person in the world? I have a story about lighting off in kayak with gear thrown unbalanced in a storm, resulting in capsizing in frigid waters and cold night out across the lake from the road. But I bet there are even better stories out there.

I had one of these a few years ago and I live in the snow and should know better. Z71 with snow tires and a locker. Problem is, the more capable the truck in the snow, the further in you get stuck. I high centered the entire truck. No cell service and getting dark but thankfully, I had snow gear with me and just walked back until I got service and had a friend come out. His Ram wasn't enough on it's own so he called his friend with a fully setup Rubicon. It took both of their trucks to get me out! They had fun with it.

That’s like 4” of snow. You can see the road was previously plowed. That’s like an average winter day in the snow belt

I live in buffalo. We can get hammered with lake effect. Some areas reach over 8ft of snow. Sometimes you can get half that in just one storm. Or sometimes we get nothing. Only got about 6” so far this year, and most of that was a few days ago.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Cardinal rule of "going off the beaten path": Bring a wingman.

Looked like your truck was up to the task but you were a little lacking in experience. Eitherway, should have got an auto. Crawl control would have saved you :D

Snow chains! Don't leave home without them. I live in GA and they stay in both trucks from November to April.
