    Unfortunately it gives us no more of an understanding of weather the pedestrians deserved it.

    For all we know that truck was the father of a kid addicted to heroine and those guys are the dealers...

    That would explain why they did not call the police... they are somehow at fault. Otherwise they would have ratted.
