New students tend to be a little wild and use a lot of strength. Try to partner up with more experienced players.
More experienced guys will be more controlled in their movement and know what may or may not injure you.

In over a year and a half there have been zero injuries at our gym. I don’t know anyone from any gym in the area that has been injured. It is all cooperative learning. People shouldn’t be getting hurt.....

This is true, being in a good gym where you are surrounded with good people is a big part of this. Sounds like you have a good place.

What are everyone’s BJJ goals for 2019? I’m a full zebra white belt so I’d like to be wearing blue this time next year. Also would like to improve my escapes from mount/back/side control. What about y’all?

I still try and muscle way too much. I am focusing on trying to understand and apply technique.

    Just started BJJ G-13

The studio I’ve been training at teachs Muay Thai, kickboxing, Kali/Eskrima and Silat been working on those for about 3yrs now. Had to take 6 months off due to an old injury that required repairs.

Decided to try Jujitsu when they started a new class to encourage beginners to come out and try it, so my belt is currently white from one end to the other, I turned 50 a couple years ago so I’ll probably be celebrating retirement by the time I get to higher belts.

I noticed some pain in my left ear at the upper lobe. I think its from all the grappling. Looking forward to cauliflower ear, I think it looks pretty tough! :crapstorm:

    Man get some headgear.
I know from experience, It looks like shit and once it gets going it hurts like a mofo, I had to go to the local farm supply store to get needles big enough to drain my ear two or three times a day for a couple weeks. I don’t want seconds of that shit.

2 subs and lost the 3rd. Granted I started training at pretty much the best BJJ school in California and trained 5x a week, so there's that lol. I've also been crushed my first matches into tournaments. They really show you where you need to improve

Literally just sent an email to the local Gracie studio (?) inquiring about cost, both my sister and I would like to take classes and Gracie is well reputed, plus their law enforcement specific classes look like they’re worth the investment.

LE classes are just marketing. Any BJJ place will teach you how to just smash the shit out of untrained people if you stay long enough. Where are you located?
