Finally broke down and purchased a pedal commander for my 17 TRD Offroad 4x4. I was very skeptical about spending $285 for one but this is the best money Ive spent in awhile. I have the shift sense pro and it helped hold gears longer but didn't help with the overall driving experience. As with the shift sense pro this was a very quick and easy install. The biggest problem I had was difficulty getting the connectors to lock properly. I have tried all of the settings and the Sport--0 is the best for me. The throttle response is 100% better than the factory settings. With the different throttle mapping it makes the transmission shifting more normal. These guys answered all of the questions that I had within a few minutes of sending them, and when I ordered it I received a tracking number within 2 hrs and delivery came from California to Alabama in 3 days. I got on their chat and asked if they had discount codes and they gave me one for $15.

Single best upgrade for these trucks... Well, at least for the engine/transmission woes. I love mine on my 3rd gen, and I bought one for my dad's 2nd gen with similar results.

Really thinking about getting this for wifes 2nd gen. I hate the poor throttle response. I always tell her the throttle feels broken.

you guys are all missing the boat. invest in your hardware and get the Orange Virus tune. i started off with the Pedal Commander, and it honestly kept me from selling the truck because the ECU code was so awful. it was great, but it's a bandaid and you can't argue with that. the issues we face are from crap ECU tunes. fix that and see what your hardware can do! the PC won't do that for you!

btw mine is for sale. ;)

For the money you spend on SSP and PC, you could have nearly bought OVTUNE which actually fixes the issues and can make the truck exactly what you want

It definitely helps. There's also a satisfaction guarantee/free trial period.

Does anyone have a link? Sounds like what I was looking for. I hope the ladies who got upset when I posted my mileage thread can jump in and tell us again that it is all physics and we should accept the driveline because it really is as good at it can get.

I looked at the OV tune, but have a hard time justifying the price.

PC wont fix ECU limits that control you engine load, power. Wont fix pinging, knocking and rough running of the engine for sure.
Just my observation after 1+year of ownership and giving time to stock, TSB "tunes"

i hear you. but here's another way to look at it:
you paid over $30k for a bunch of hardware you can't totally use, because you also bought the included software that actually mutes your hardware. for another $700 you're just completing the sale IMO. this is what it takes to open up and use the hardware YOU OWN. me? not a fan of muted hardware, especially regarding engines.

So OV Tune reflashes the ECU and will void my warranty but PC just unplugs?
Can OVT be removed and reinstalled without problems? Approx how long is the download time?

for anyone that is actually considering OV, the main thing at this point in development is that you'll need to do your research spending time learning all that. sorry but simple answers won't really answer all the questions. i understand that, because of the early development and somewhat raw way he handles things as a one man show more or less... it's not for everyone.

    Doesn't void warranty.

You can just flash the stock file back in 5 mins. Been to the dealer many times while OVTuned...no issues, even when they have applied TSBs

I considered the ovt but I still have a lot of warranty left and sad to say the computer skills needed scared me a little. I would probably need to pay a local tuner and that just added to cost. Ovt would be my first choice if I thought I could install and uninstall myself. All of that said I am really happy with pc.

It’s so easy man, like 3 clicks once you have all the software installed

Ovtune is going to offer handheld units in the near future. No fuss, no fucking around with computers (unless you have to get updated files later on). It's a tablet that is pre loaded with the tune files, and plugs into your OBD port. Simple.

I doubt it. mine is a 2016 so ???? When i disconnect the battery for 5+minutes it basically resets everything anyways.

Wish I knew the ovt was that easy to install. Would have done it long ago. I got the ssp when my truck was new and like I said it helped. The pc has really made a big difference. It gives the impression that the truck has a lot more power. The acceleration is much quicker and smoother, and with the more power with less pedal the truck holds lower gears like it should. I don't use the ssp since this install because its not needed. There are four settings with 8 sub settings for each so you can find exactly the pedal mapping that fits your driving style. I know that I will still have the cruise control constant shifting issue but Ive read where the ovt does not solve that either.

now this sounds good. I have used many handheld tuners on other vehicles with great results. I would definitely pay $700 for a hand held unit.

but as one poster said, I am pretty sure that Toyota can see how many times the ECU has been flashed. regardless if you return it to stock before any warranty work. I know for a fact Ford and Dodge can tell if you have flashed your vehicle. been down that road a couple times myself.
