Ask yourself if your own peace-of-mind is more valuable than the extra time and money spent changing it more frequently than the manual says and if the answer is "yes" tell everyone else to suck it.

I can understand that side of the argument. If your turbo charged, tow alot, or hell even wheel alot it makes sense. But just highway driving like most people do it doesnt. Lets face it our engine aint no goat lol

If you run 91 Octane fuel, it changes the oil interval to 5000k, and 5W30

I understand the sentiment but it costs almost as much for the oil test as a an oil change if you do it yourself . why not just do the oil change ? Do an oil test at 10K and again at 59 K before the warranty runs out .

With synthetic oil 10K is conservative. There are lots of guys out there with 400,000+ miles that changed oil at 10K or even longer. The guy with the 1.2 million mile Tacoma doesn't even keep up with his mileage. He changes once/month and said it varied between 8K-12K. His original engine was still working fine at almost 900,000 miles but needed a new head gasket. They decided to just replace the engine with one out of a scrap yard with 100,000 on it. He now has 400,000 miles on that engine.

I've been changing mine on my 2007 at 10K since new and now have 194,000 on it. I have no doubts about it going another 194,000 with the same oil change interval.

You forgot to add "You're going to blow up your engine at 100k miles if you don't change the oil every 5k miles." and "If you use 0W20 oil instead of <insert manufacturer/different weight> then you're a Toyota shill.".

    It's going to be ok.

You can change your oil before 10k if it makes you happy.

    Waiting until 10k also works.

0W20 synthetic oil is what Toyota recommends.

Good luck and keep your sense of humor well oiled also.

    Cheers

I hotrod mine lol. I let her sing through the RPMs as it was designed to. When I change the oil, it isn't gold anymore by any means, so I just change it. It helps that I'm at a dealership too so I can put it on my rack whenever.

friends and family with high milage toyotas (300k and over) say they just follow
the owners manual recommendation. I used to do 2k oil changes
but now i do 10k oil changes. also get a fumoto valve.

Changed my oil 4 times the first 2 years under ToyotaCare. After that I was told by the dealership that I only needed to do it every 10,000 miles since I was using synthetic. I put about 7,500/year on my truck so when I take it in for an inspection I get the oil changed at the same time.

My 2 cents... people that care about changing their oil more regularly take care of EVERYTHING about the vehicle, not just the oil. So these are the people saying they have a million miles and it is because of frequent oil changes. For the record, I'm doing 5k until warranty expires then 7-8k.
