How often do you change your oil? My manual says 10,000 miles?

I want to change my oil at 5k to make it last 300k miles but wait now I want to trade it in for another truck :)

...or I got in an accident, now I don’t want this Tacoma anymore :)

I’m willing to bet most people don’t keep their vehicles past 200k from new.

    I change every 5k with 6cyl.
Tried to go 10k with a newer Honda (syn 0w20) and found sludge in the fill cap and valve covers.
Probably due to short trips and only 7-8k miles per year. (We rarely drive on the highway to burn off moisture.)
After that, it will always be 5000 intervals from now on...

I'd like to see some stats on motors that wore out prematurely due to following the manufacturers recommended oil change intervals vs changing 2x as often...........

I'm 8500 miles into a 10k change on Mobil 1 Extended Performance Full Sythetic which is rated for 15k miles. Will compare oil color at change to see if I want to run it for the full 15k. Mobil 1 Guarantees their oil at those intervals and will replace your engine if it fails from it.

You can’t just go by color. I’d trust smell before color. Just saying.

Color, smell, viscosity. All things to consider. I might send it off to blackstone labs for an analysis.

My Tacoma will be the first vehicle I've ever owned that I'll take back to the dealership for oil changes. I've never had anyone change my oil for me.

I hate not doing it myself, but with a 20 year 200K mile drive train warranty, I don't ever want to fall into a gray area in case something happens.

I am gonna see if they'll change it when I take it in for the 5K check up.

LOLz, I actually never went over 3k before and was always nervous if it went just over the 3k mark, this was a previous vehicle. Then I purchased the Tacoma and they said every 10k... I said excuse me?!?! 10k, you sure my engine won't seize up, as long as its under warranty and they are changing it I'll stay on 10k, after wards it'll be 5-6k max. Cant hurt, it'll only help the longevity.

After reading the numerous threads, NUMEROUS threads, on the subject, I've decided to go the "better safe than sorry route". Oil is cheap, and my time really is of no value.

Just to be safe, I change my oil once a week. Since I've been doing this, I've yet to have an oil-related problem with my Taco, let alone any problems with the truck.

Hell, to think about it, I've yet to have a heart attack or contract cancer, and my kidney stones haven't come back either.

Seriously, is that is even possible now, the manual says 10K miles for the V6. If you are not comfortable with that for any reason - which you don't have to justify to anyone - change it more frequently. The Toyota engineers just don't think it is necessary.

I change mine every 12 months. Purchased it in June 2016 and now it has about 10,200 miles.

How about science and engineering is just not as important to them (you) as myths and legends? Please, show me (documented with pics) an engine that failed before design life by following the synthetic oil spec and interval. You cannot because it does not exist. I can show you however where using the correct oil and interval gets engines to amazing mileage.
I don't care if you change your oil every 500 miles, just don't go spreading silly stories and expecting anyone who knows anything to believe them.
