I've always enjoyed manuals over autos.

This is the dilemma I faced. I wanted the Manual, Access Cab and Off-Road - but in the U.S. we have to "Pick Two", so I picked Manual and Access Cab, and gave up the Off-Road for the Sport. I hate Toyota for that but made my choice and would do it again, I console myself that the Sport is a better vehicle for the street anyway and if I want to make it more Off-Road capable later I can always do so.

I built the truck I wanted on Toyota's site and checked inventory which showed me how many were available. Then I emailed 5 dealers other than my local and told them what I wanted and asked for their best price. Made sure the dealer I chose had the truck on the lot.
Ended up driving three hours each way to get my truck. No more than a couple miles on the odometer when I test-drove and bought it.

good to plan ahead. i got the first MT Pro delivered in Texas. 5 1/2 month wait, but i planned well ahead so no major drama. (except my other car died while waiting on the Tacoma which was kind of a PITA)

OP, I traded in my ACLB 6MT for my DCSB OR 6MT, and love it, no regrets. Honestly I thought I was going to miss the bed space but turned out I only needed those extra 12” of space for rare occasions. Now I love having the extra room in the rear and my buddies don’t complain now about having to sit in the back like they did in ACLB. Plus having the way bigger interior room (with seats folded especially) makes transporting my stuff in poor weather much easier.

And as far as the MT, not even comparable to an auto. Can’t tell you how enjoyable it makes driving the truck, and I live in Socal with traffic. Even more comfortable then the autos I’ve owned. Off-roading (especially in 4low) is a blast too. So much torque in the low range, I do most trails without ever having to use the clutch. Honestly if this truck wasn’t offered in MT I wouldn’t drive a Taco any longer. And the Atrac works awesome, think of it like crawl control, where it can apply brakes to wheel not getting traction to help you advance. I’ve done some sections in my Taco with ease that my buddies in their Jeeps were sliding and spinny on lose rocks.

Good luck with your decision OP, if I had to summarize the difference between the AT and MT, it’s like riding a moped vs a Ducati. :burnrubber:

    So. Many. Stickers.
Might want to look around, mate. Dealership closest to me wasn't willing to look, order, or even consider a drop-ship/dealership trade for a manual. (who buys manuals anyways?) even though they couldn't keep them on their lot for more than a week...

Got lucky here in STL, three, count 'em, THREE Access Cab Sports came in with M/T to three different dealerships, all black (pretty sure they came off the line together) and the three dealerships had a field day with people going after them for the "best deal". Anyways, I LOVE my AC M/T Sport, well worth it. 4x4 is a synch with the auto roll/control deal (3 seconds before the clutch "gives" and allows the truck to roll back into the BMW behind you) and frankly, the low gearing and the Limited Slip (plus assorted fun buttons when you're in 4x4 Low) are pretty damn capable.

Stock suspension is just that; stock. BUT its fairly capable, and until you've added 2 tons worth of rock armor and heavy axles, it'll hold up for quite a while.

FYI: They keep changing unnecessary things. All 2018's come with the TSS BS, but 2017's do NOT have floormats that lock to the floor on the passenger side, and 2019's delete the bedside tool bins. 2019 also did away with the two greatest colors Toyota have ever made, Inferno Orange and Obi-Wan'sLightsaber Blue.

Which makes no sense. Aren't they all, Canada and USA (6MT ACLB), built in Texas?

I asked my dealer about buying a manual trd sport and and complete rear axle assy from a trd offroad and having them swap axles for me. They weren't interested.

I just have to install a rear air locker. I plan on having on board air anyway.

Sometimes making the drive is worth it. I ordered one originally from my local dealer then less then a month later I found one exactly how I wanted it, but 5.5hr away. Nothing a good playlist and some delicious fast food couldn’t take care of. Three months shaved off my wait for for less than half’s a days worth of driving. I called as soon as I found and put a deposit over the phone with my credit card, dealer had on their lot for a single day before people already wanted it. My sales rep ended up taping “SOLD” signs on the windows and hiding the keys in her desk so other sales reps wouldn’t let customers test drive it since they kept asking. She totally understood and didn’t want some kid burning my clutch before I did :D. Negotiate the deal prior to driving and get it all on paper. Make the appointment with your sales person, so you just us to show up and sign. :burnrubber:. Funny cause I’ve owned vehicles that were way more expensive then my Taco, but nothing compares to the MT Taco experience. Making it your own is half the fun!

With 200k+ Tacomas 3rd gens sold every year I can see this being a big retrofit thread in TW's future.

Another place to search is cars.com you can set filters for manual trans and the features you want and it will show you the nearest ones.
I did the 4 month wait after paying a deposit at a dealer just for them to tell me they couldn’t get the truck.
I went to cars.com and found the exact and only Inferno TRD OR 6MT with Tech and orange/black interior available in Colorado. I had it shipped to me the week after I found it!
