This Signet has to be one of the richest drams I've ever enjoyed. So much chocolate and oaked vanilla. It's got me thinking of dates and dark chocolate marrying in this glass... it's beautiful!

I had to do a double take of the labeled ABV. At 46% it most definitely punches above its weight class (earlier today I had nothing but barrel proof stuff or close to it and this 46% is the lowest ABV by far). The old barrels shine through for sure. I don't know what sorcery is going on at Glenmorangie, but I want more of it.

Yeah this bottle is a work of art.

Without a single notification aside from the order confirmation...it arrived today! Now it's only a short flight to Vegas next month before I can lay hands on it! Here's my buddy getting his mitts all over my goods

Not my favorite since I've never had it, but picked this up for $65, sale from $120 MSRP.

Distilled from Sam Adams Boston Lager. Anyone tried it?

Have never even seen it before. It looks very clear like it has not aged very long in the barrel. Does it taste like it?

The lack of color would make me pass unless people are saying good things about it.

It was a small batch, distillery in Western MA. I don't think bottles made it much further than neighboring states.

Have not tasted yet, will give it a shot tonight though!

It was aged in barrels 4 years, 2012-2016.

I was out and about today and decided to stop at a couple neighborhood liquor stores that I know carry hard to find beer. I figured they may have similar hard to find liquor The first one was a bust - had good stuff but nothing hard to find. The second place was better. They had things like Weller Special Reserve (but not the other 2 Wellers), Blantons and 3 E.H. Taylors - Small Batch, Single Barrel and Rye. Their prices weren't crazy, but definitely higher than regular retail.

I didn't buy anything there but did pick up a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oak from Total Wine. I've read a lot of good things about it.

ha, i almost bought it today myself.

I've been enjoying Talisker Distillers immensely since the recommendation from this thread. and I've learned a bit, too.

today i ended getting a simple bottle of Ledaig 10yr, cus I've got a taste for the sea without a lot of distraction.

Dates is very fair, too. I told you it's good! I love barrel proof stuff, I love spicy stuff, I love peated scotches. This is none of those and still my favorite.

    Glad you enjoy it!

It is not at all like the Talisker, which I only preface so you don't go looking for a heavy, peaty dram and end up disappointed (that Talisker DE is awesome, by the way!).

Signet is lightly floral, then backed by a rich dark chocolate note with a bit of citrus. It has a bit of tobacco, too, with some toasted nuts. Very viscous and really coats the mouth.

    Expertly blended layers of flavor.

We'll see if @trekker agrees with that assessment. ;)

    that's the thing! $200!

btw this Ledaig 10 is an experience for me. lots of smoke but very tempered by the briney flavor. a little sharp on the smoke but i can deal with it. i think without that sharpness it would be a pretty boring one.

Talisker 10 was the first scotch I fell in love with. I've always liked all kinds of whisky, but Talisker got me hooked. My local Total Wine has been sold out of the Distillers Ed. for a while now, but until I find it the 18 has been a Godsend.

I really like Ledaig, too. It's way more like an Islay than other island drams and maybe that's why I gravitate toward it. It's way more peat- forward than Talisker... almost like a Highland Park but with Islay-like peat instead of heather.

Nailed the Signet notes much more eloquently than I can to justify the glory in that bottle. Only thing I would add is that the citrus comes through - to me - as dark and over-ripe fruits, almost a caramelized type of flavor. If you've enjoyed other heavily sherried whiskies it's like those that are typically bottled at higher ABV.

    Definitely expertly blended!

Speaking of sherry finished whiskies... I had the wife help me out with a blind flight to see what my current favorites are.

    20190120_140628.jpg

Was my first pull from the Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso bottle and I didn't know what to expect, so that glass truly was blind. I never thought it would wind up edging out my beloved A'bunadh, but it did.

For the money, Edradour 10 is tops out of these four even though it's 43% ABV vs the others at 58-60%. It was easy to call it out of this lineup since it has less alcohol behind it, but the sherry fruits are still there in full force. I also identified the Aberlour since I've had a lot of time to get to know that bottle. The Macallan and Glenlivet are both somewhat new to me and I guessed them incorrectly. The 2017 classic cut is good, but way too overly candy sweet for my taste in this lineup.

I'm a bit mad at myself for waiting so long to try the Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso, but I'm glad I enjoy it and it's more readily available and cheaper than newer A'bunadh bottles. If you haven't given it a shot, go for it and let me know what you think.

Hibiki is amazing. Can be a hunt to find it, but once you do, definitely worth.

Recently visited some friends in Kentucky, and got my hands on some Boone County 1833, and the stuff is brilliant. All you folks out that way should grab a bottle.
