What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Thought I heard that you have to drill the holes bigger for the banjo bolts on the Tundra calipers but I haven't done the conversion myself... @BartMaster1234 you've done this haven't you

 

Did you buy the brake lines for a Tundra or for a Tacoma? The Tundra (stock) is setup to use a hard flared brake line, and then a soft line. The Tacoma is setup with only a banjo bolt and a soft brake line. However, you can make the Tacoma banjo bolt work by drilling it out.

Most folks use the banjo bolt setup with the soft line, but I'm extra and wanted the setup to match the Tundra stock. So I used LC Engineering's conversion kit with the correct hard and soft brake lines.

 

Got my alternator in with the help from @taco71742 after we installed his snorkel.

Damn thing is huge compared to stock





Everything is up and running, so far no issues

 

The problem is that the remaned calipers are sometimes remaned too shallow for the banjo. This seems to happen somewhat randomly, but more so with less expensive remans from what I've seen. The Napa remans for instance generally don't have the issue, which is one of the reasons I went with them. The other option of course is to go purchase a slightly shorter bolt to use with the Wheelers lines. Or, use thicker crush washers, depending on how much is still sticking out.

Or, is your problem that it won't thread in at all? If that's the issue, then you've just got a bad reman. Not much to do really except get another IMO. I wouldn't want to re-tap that, since you could end up with metal in the caliper.

I had this problem where the remans were to shallow to take the entire bolt from the wheelers lines. I ended up stacking two thicker copper washers on the bottom side of the fitting so that they would tighten up without bottoming out.

 

Thats why the banjo bolt doesn’t fit. You have a Tacoma length banjo bolt that you’ll have to drill out.

 

This is not true at all, please don't spread this around.

The Wheelers lines and bolts ( ) fit just fine on a lot of remaned 13WLs. It's just some that they don't fit on, and it has to do with how the reman was done.

Not too tight, just 22 ft-lbs.

 

Sorry. I mistook it for the stock Tacoma banjo bolt which does need to be drilled out, as I’ve been told.

 

Just a tad. It was pouring down rain and then switched to snow rather quickly so everything just froze.

Just had to pull someone off a median with my truck. First time getting to use some of my newer recovery gear. The old 280k mile Tacoma pulled the car off the median real quick.

 

Just finished up swapping the engine. Took me about 3 weeks granted I work all day. Got her washed up and ready to get back on the road

 

Hell of a first post. What'd you swap it with? LS1? 6BT Cummins? Details, man.

 

Nah just put in another 3.4. The other engine was at 200K with a blown head gasket and knocking. So I got one from JDM and pulled the old one, did some swapping, and put the new one in.

 

Nice, how easy was the JDM swap? I hear they're appealing because of the low mileage engines but can sometimes be a pain since they aren't US spec emissions wise

 

It honestly wasn't that bad. I was going to get someone to do it for me since I'm an amateur mechanic but kept looking at it and didnt seem too bad. Had to swap the plenum and intake manifold(vacuum lines didnt match up), and oil pan and cooler. Went ahead and changed the intake gaskets and exhaust manifold gaskets and replaced the timing belt/water pump. But overall, not bad.
