May have been a bad weekend to go. They had a big event at the fishing expo. Usually I'll drive up to bass pro look around for hours and not buy anything then go to greentop and find exactly what I need.

I say ovtune. I know a few people with it and they say it turned their truck into a whole new vehicle. With how much driving you’ll do, I think you’ll benefit from that the most. Then the skid and sliders can come later on. You can do plenty of light wheeling without any armor and be just fine.

Yeh I think it was just a bad time for inventory, after the holidays and in between seasons and all that. They always have a shit load of guns. I was looking for some hunting gear though.

    Morning all.

Thanks, I will have to try them out next time I'm up that way.

Doesn't the OVTune impact the MPGs though? I mean, the extra weight from the skids and sliders probably will to, but at least you get the added benefit of some trail protection. I've been considering the OVTune as well, but I was worried about the MPGs taking another hit. Plus, I kind of drive like an old man anyway.

I couldn’t tell you. I thought it impacted them for the better but @Montauk17 can chime in as he has it on his truck.

Edit: and when I said he’d benefit from it the most, I didn’t mean mpg. I meant just overall drive ability of the truck since he’ll benefit from it every single time he gets behind the wheel as opposed to the 0.1% of the time spent offroad

If MPGs get better with the tune...I guess I will add it to my list as well. :spending:

Damn I forgot all about that. Nah @TaKoToy is right. They probably have 50% or more of their inventory up with them at the Meadow Event Park for the Fishing expo this weekend. I think Green Top is great. Much prefer it to Cabela’s and is just less of a circus than Bass Pro. But I may be biased, I’ve been going there my whole life. Took my hunters safety course there as a young pup and everything.

Ah, got it. That does make sense. For some reason, I get hung up on my MPG when it probably only impacts me by a few dollars a month.

Let me know! It’s walkable from my house.

Oh I love Green Top. I prefer it to all those other stores, too.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned URD MAF calibrater. That’s what I have. I do have the TCAI as well. Seems like they do the same thing just one is almost half the price.

Take this with a grain of salt because I haven’t researched the urd maf calibrator, but I’m guessing they’re not the same thing. The ovtune is like a traditional tune which does some fancy wiz bang computer stuff and gets loaded into the ECM and changes a shit load of parameters around the truck to completely change how it behaves, like shift points, whereas the maf calibrator just messes with fuel mixture.

Better look deeper. My calibrater is tunable. Fuel curve, exhaust etc.

Edit. Lmao. Ok maybe not shift points. I see your point now. My bad.

I think the biggest thing keeping people away from the URD calibrators is that they aren't well supported on the tuning side of it. There aren't a million shops out there tuning them like with HP Tuner and the Accessport. Throw a stick in almost any direction and you'll find someone that can tune those, so you're usually stuck having to tune URD's stuff yourself. I know they offer base maps for certain mods, but base map should be fine tuned to the motor. Then you're back at the tune it yourself.

Another consideration is that none of the URD calibrators are marketed toward the 3rd gen Tacomas. I'm sure the universal model could be made to work if you find the right wires, but people want easy (aka PNP). The OVTune is primarily a 3rd gen thing, but I think they offer tunes for the 4.0.

Depending on the version of URD calibrator, you can adjust timing as well but none will do shift points. That requires altering the stock programming.
