Gosh missed all the "when I was a kid" stories. I remember riding to school in the bus with snow chains on. We'd sit on the seats over the wheel hump. One time one of the cross links broke and was slapping away at the underside of the wheel hump. Eventually it made a little hole. I stuck a pencil in there and it got cut clean off.

We had all kinds of dire winter weather warnings here but it was a bust. I heard that the track moved 20 miles east or something, just enough to leave us with a thin coating of what used to be snow but turned into slush after the rain. I used a broom on it before the cold winds turned it solid.

Welcome to the newcomers. Reminder that we're not immune to the "no politics" rule here on TW. I like coming here and wouldn't want to see it locked!

Are snow ended yesterday around 4:00pm,8”-10”, all cleaned up. Went to work today,6*, warming to 15*. Food, football, and the recliner are instore for the rest of the day. Gotta put some air in the car and truck, so cold the tires lose a little.

Where I went to HS in the middle of Nevada, our bus got stuck in a frozen mud puddle one time. 3" or 4" of ice it broke thru, they sent a couple station wagons out to get the kids off. Girls and little kids first, Superintendent of Schools came for us boys, bought us lunch when we eventually got to town.
We maintained a Guvment weather station at our farm, recording temps, precip. Watching the TV news out of Salt Lake City, we'd often be the cold spot in the nation, only known to us as we had no phone, generator for power.

I drove a school bus in western Wa a couple of years. We trained for snow driving, and the routes were adjusted for 'snow days'. I remember training in a high school parking lot on one day with enough snow to cancel school. The newbees were called in for 'training'. Go fast and brake. Lots of skidding and turning the wheel to control.
One of the other newbees said we should use the retarder. The boss/trainer said the district policy is to not use it. After some discussion she said ok. We got the bus going really good and turned on the retarder. The bus reduced speed without skidding and we braked at the end to stop.
    Policy was changed that day.

We did have fun in the snow that day. Imagine a big bus and purposely skidding in the icy snow covered parking lot. Yippee!! Training is good.

We had about a foot of snow - then it turned to rain about 4AM. I went out to plow and shovel about 9 when it had started to turn back to snow. By then we had 6 to 8 inches of wet slop. Brutal to shovel and had to plow downhill with the UVT just to be able to move it. Cleared our driveway and then did my mother-in-law's place. The temps dropped 12 degrees in the two hours I was out. Now the wind is howling and the temp is 12 - headed down to below zero overnight and -20 to -30 windchills tomorrow with a high of 5.

Lost a friend today - heart attack while trying to shovel this crap. He lived about 3 miles from us - neighbors found him unresponsive in his driveway this morning. Stay safe and hug your loved ones.

The talk of all that snow shoveling reminds me why I stayed in Albuquerque.

Sorry to hear of your friend, prime season for such events.

My dad drove school bus/maintenance for maybe six months in Nevada while the regular driver, a neighbor over a mile away recuperated from surgery. This one right turn after a good snow, my dad would goose it a little to us guys only thrill. :)

    Evening all:
Just picked up the second batch of sausage from the FL deer. :hungry:
Watching the Rams Saints game, no preference, but the Rams got away with what should have been a blatant pass interference call that the refs missed, always makes you wonder!

Another Mobile, AL policeman murdered this afternoon while in the line of duty. Was delivering an arrest warrant for a career criminal who out on bail for 18 car burglaries.

The second one in less than a year and both officers were outstanding young men who had received Officer of the Month Commendations recently.

Prayers for the families of the fallen officers.

Seems like almost every day now there is another law enforcement officer killed, just seems like more and more people are getting out of control and have no respect for anything. Prayers to the families also.
Often wondered why they let career criminals out to commit more crime, guess it helps provide lawyers and judges with a guaranteed income!
