I bought last years model ('17) as the 18's were coming out. Got $4K off the price and it's brand new. Also got a lot of options thrown in. Now that's a smokin' deal!

    Try a different dealer

My 2017 loaded trd offroad was 51k roughly 38kUSD out the door in Ontario.
Different dealers charge different rates .I shopped around other dealers were saying the same mark up you're posting about.

when you account for exchange rate the prices are actually the same MSRP . It's just higher sales tax usually

Basically how I look at it is as follows:
Toyota : reliable, sexy, low on power and overpriced
Ford: also nice lookers, made well, but engines are not durable
Nissan: not modern at all, not quality on the inside, but very truck like and cheap
    Chev/gmc : nope (I’m biased)

It’s been bad for quite a while.i pretty much expect to pay close to double what Americans pay for truck related stuff.

Sure glad our taxes helped keep them out of bankruptcy. Why should they feel obligated to keep jobs here after that?

Because with exchange the Tacoma for example is much cheaper in Canada.

So looking at straight msrps for Off road double cab auto short bed:
USA MSRP is $36,500, this is $48,500 CA
Canadian MSRP is $42,505 this is $32,000 US

This is why Canadian trucks are actually going to USA quite a bit. Lots of 1-3 year old trucks, especially half tons are going south of the border.

I don’t doubt you, but even the cheapest model on their site is ~45k after taxes (not including fees) which is an sr5

WoW, that is why I with certified pre owned. The dealer had my 2015 listed for $25K. I go to see them and they give me papers for $30K. He asked, "What do we have to do to get you to leave here today with this truck?' I said, "25K including tax and tags out the door." I ended up with $29K out the door. They are scumbags. I hate dealing with them, but I love my Taco. Whatcha going to do? I'm in NJ and bought my Taco in PA.

Go to Toyota.ca and check the MSRP for yourself. Its about $40,000.
The "pro" version (which seems to add nothing of consequence besides a skid plate and leather seats) adds another $10,000.

I heard the pro comes with a 6” lift, even a video with the head engineer saying so.

I would use Toyota.ca instead of your dealer site. They are using internet pics from USA. There is no SR5 mention on Toyota.ca site for Tacoma and the truck pictured there doesn't exist in Canada. There is no double cab short bed with those wheels and chrome rear bumper in Canada. Seems like just an awful website to get info from.
