K&N Box filter + Deck plate mod = bad O2 sensor

I just finnished my deck plate mod about two weeks ago. Within those two weeks I had 3 check engine lights, all of them O2 sensor. Each time I pull it out, the front side is caked with black soot.

My theory is the increased air flow is blowing the oil off the K&N filter. That mixed with smog is caking up my sensor. I say smog because all three times, the light came on in a tunnel during rush hour (If you're from Hampton Roads, VA, you know exactly what I mean).

 

FWIW, I'm running the K&N filter with the deckplate mod and have had no problems with this. I do not drive in high smog areas such as the tunnel. The air here in Harrisonburg is rather nice.

 

Did u reoil your K&N filter yourself? or is it brand new?

 

Its new (the Filter). I cleaned the sensor and it was doing just fine, then I hit the tunnel and it goes. Its got ~100k on it, so I guess its about time to replace.

When is it recomended you replace your sensor?

 

Im retarded. Its the Mass Air Flow sensor that keeps going bad... Not the O2.

 

Dont remember the exact code. There were three, to include the MAF and I think O2. The mechanic said a bad MAF would pop all three. I cleaned it off and reinstalled and it was fine (3 times in fact). Each time, I get a black sooting deposite on the sensor.

 

i got a check engine light 3 days after my deck plate mod, and it was the same thing. I cleaned the MAF and have not had any more trouble... It pulls the oil off the filter and raps up the elements on the MAF.
