Used tranny for my 4x4 conversion. Don't want to install and regret not replacing something. I could remove from my 2WD tranny but rather keep it intact. Have looked high and low. Some info i know but part numbers are elusive because
the dealer parts lists treat the tranny as one piece. I plan to change the oil, fix the rusty or damaged parts and run the tranny.

see this link for parts diagram
    https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/sh...1653&ukey_driveLine=6762&ukey_trimLevel=18234

    Bold are open questions.
    Italics are answers found.

    #1 Rear Coolant Union.
    Maybe 90407-16012 See link below.

97996AA but probably an exchange number. See post below for link
#2 Neutral Sensor? Do these fail? Heard its positioning is important or things misbehave.
    Maybe part # 84540-30290
    #3 Front Coolant Union.
    Maybe 32921-04050
97996A but probably an exchange number. See post below for link
#4 Dip Stick. Part of pan. 04 2WD and 4WD pans are the same.
#5 Shift link. There is a seal in there.
    OK to use as is
#6 Servo assy. Same as above.
    OK to use as is
#7 Connector with rusty bracket. Goes to valve body i think.
    OK to use as is
#8 Sensor with broken bolt. What does it sense?
    Maybe part # 89411-50010
    #9 Nub Thing. Rusty.
This is a vent. Thanks Bartman1234

Beyond these i think the input and output shafts are the only other parts to replace.

    Thank you.

Fittings are item 996 in this link.

    http://www.uazbuka.ru/lib/AKPP/Catalog_A340_etc.pdf

Long one is part number 97996A
Short one is part number 97996AA

I think these parts number are exchange numbers not factory or AISN numbers as i found them on two different tranny dismantler web sites.

You shouldnt have to replace any of these fittings or items unless they are leaking .
    # 1 ... The coolant fittings will bolt directly to your transmission cooling lines .
    # 2 ...If the Nuetral sensor plugs into your original harness , use it .
    # 3 ...The second cooler line union will also bolt up to your existing cooling lines
    # 4 ... The dipstick union should be the same as your 2 wheel drive .
#5 .. The shifter shaft seal only needs to be replaced if it leaks
    # 6 ..The accumulator seal should only be reeplaced if it leaks
    # 7 ..If the sensor mates up with your harness , use it . Only change the seal if the seal leaks .
    # 8 ...I have no clue what this is . Maybe a larger picture ?
    # 9 ...is the transmission vent . Guys usually pop that top cap off and run some rubber line up to the firewall .

If you want to change all these seals , you are better off purchasing a transmission re-seal kit . Every possible seal comes with the kit .

If anything , you should replace the front seal where the torque converter fits into the transmission .

Regarding #4 the dipstick union, they are very different on the 2WD and 4WD counterparts. On my truck when I did my swap, the A340E dipstick is shorter, and the tube exits from the driver’s side. On the A340F, the dipstick and tube are longer and exit from the passenger side.

You are correct depending on the size of the engine . Thanks for the correction

I will add that you need to check the union on your 2wd transmission and compare it to the 4wd, dependent on the engine size as stated.

Not saying this is the case for the OP since his is an ‘04, but for my conversion the union on my 4wd transmission (from an ‘01 V6) was not correct for my ‘99 V6. The upper portion of the fill tube was the exact same for both transmissions, the dipstick was indeed longer for the 4wd transmission, but I had to buy a different pan for my 4wd transmission so that it would align as it should. Both exited on the same side of the truck, but were different in the angles and bends. I have not seen anyone else who has had this trouble, but I documented it all the best of my ability here

Thanks Gents. I am coming to the conclusion that i will just swap the parts from my 2WD where i can but in the effort to leave crumbs for the next guy here are images from my 2WD that would compare with my donor 4WD in the original post. Both of these tranny's are from an 04. On obviously lived in the salt belt and the other in the desert. :)

Pan. I have also been told the 2WD and 4WD are different although i was lead to believe it was the size/capacity of the sump and the number of magnets. Did not realize the dip stick was also different. That is significant. My 4WD donor is rusty at the joint so that causes me concern. Also the dealers does not list different parts between 2WD and 4WD for 2004 which is confusing. Maybe it is year specific?

Front oil fitting seems to be the same. Hard to get a good picture in the tuck of the 2WD one.

Rear fitting for sure is different. Length and angle look the same but 2WD unit does not have that extra screw and what does it do anyways? Maybe to bleed the system?

Shift sensor seems the same. I will check the seal.

This is the the sensor with the broken bolt. It is in the nose cone on the 2WD and sure looks to be the same as what i have in the 4WD transfer case adapter. I was told this was the speed sensor but what it senses inside the nose cone i have not figured out. There is another sensor on the 2WD nose cone that is not on the transfer case adapter. I honestly think that is the speed sensor and this is something else.

    More pieces to the puzzle.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I’d like to answer #8! It is a speed sensor that senses the reluctor ring that attaches to the output shaft.

P/N is correct (8941150010) and it fits a multitude of a340e and f transmissions.

Thank you @okolesniffer. Happy to report that 3 years later this donor 4WD trans is working just fine.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I’m in the middle of swapping my transmission and I can’t figure out what the wires pictured in picture #4 are for. If anyone could help me out it’d be greatly appreciated
