I worked some extra hours earlier in the week so I only had to do 4 hours today.
I pulled all the tape off of the mounting pucks. Well, most of the tape...some of it is stuck in the epoxy. Then I drilled and countersunk some holes, epoxy coated the holes then set all of the t nuts for mounting the front aluminum box. So, those will get sanded, epoxied and fiberglassed tomorrow and they’ll be done!

    A2C3F4F7-0206-4D69-A376-323CF034EAFE.jpg
I also got one of the two rear L Track plates epoxied and filleted in place. I learned a few things when I did the side L Track plates that I applied here which let me epoxy in place and fillet at the same time. It’s held in place with stainless screws that are completely epoxy sealed into the mount. With no tape in the way and a reasonably secure holding method, I didn’t have any obstructions or worries about laying in the epoxy fillets. I’ll get the second plate mounted tomorrow probably. I don’t want to deal with trying to mount the second one with all the sticky epoxy in the area.

I had some leftover thickened epoxy in the pot so I went around the camper and started filling divots and small areas that need fairing. I also laid a full layer around the door opening. Epoxy thickened with colloidal silica is much harder to sand than epoxy thickened with fairing ‘micro balloons’ but I didn’t want to waste the epoxy and I didn’t cover a very big area.

Much more to come this weekend!

    Morning shift update!

Second, and LAST, L Track mounting plate is epoxied in place. Tomorrow, I’ll fiberglass these and cross these off the list! I’m thinking this might be a great place to mount some MaxTrax. Easy access but out of the way.

This afternoon/evening, I’m going to finish up the front aluminum box mounts: sand, epoxy fill, glass over. Then those will be off the list!

Upcoming: start to sand/fair the camper inside and out and work on getting the door functional. I’m going to have to spin the camper around on it’s table so I can actually open the door to work on it. Gotta get that latch figured out. I’ve also got a plan for making a good jig for drilling all the holes in the bed for the camper mount plates and rubber mounts. Stay tuned for that too!

    We are GETTING THERE!

    This is it for today.

Glassed in the back of the mounting pucks for the front box. I didn’t run a full strip of glass over each set of three this time. I decided to just do a patch over each puck. Hopefully it’s good? I’m sure it’s fine. Haha.

Glassed in both of these bad boys! Which means...

Two more things off the list! That also means that I have attached all the things that are getting attached to the camper. Crazy!

This will cure up today/tomorrow then I’ll spin the camper on the table and get going on the door. I can work on sanding and epoxy fairing day by day.

My wife helped me spin the camper around so I could work on the door. The door wouldn’t even remotely swing open far enough to get in and out when the camper was turned the other way. The door would hit the workbench. Now I have plenty of room! Plus, the garage looks completely different. Nice change after so many months (a year?) of it looking the same.

After all of the re-work I did to the door, I needed to re-reinforce the edges. Handled that tonight. Should be good to go tomorrow! I can’t wait to get this door done. I’ve been stressing and overthinking it for sooooo long. Time to dive in and just make it happen. Make mistakes, fix them, move forward. Always move forward.

When I got home, I put the door in the camper and got the heater going. The epoxy didn’t feel quite done curing. I’ll get after the door tomorrow.

    But I did...

    6AF0525C-7223-45ED-8588-67589E7DC8E4.jpg
I did some sanding then went around and fixed a few spots that needed some extra care. I’ll be chasing these all over the camper as I sand it down.

    13A6F596-6BCF-45A2-AC51-FE2BC3EC8FD2.jpg
Then I put some fairing compound on. I didn’t do a huge area because I want to see how this works as I applied it. Is it going to sag? How much needs to be applied? What else do I not know about this? Haha. All part of learning something new without actually researching how to do something. That’s how I roll.

    That’s probably it for tonight.

More fairing! As you may recall, I already did this months ago...making the camper very smooth. It was very smooth because I sanded off all of the fiberglass tape. So, I re-glassed all of the corners which I’m now blending back into the wall as well as I can without spending months on the process. I’m telling you this because all of the white areas are already pretty smooth from that last go around. I only really need to do the edges. Saves a little time.

I’m not going for super perfection here. Just shy of embarrassing is probably good. Haha. The bar gets lower with every passing day.

As you may be thinking: Feb 1 is rolling up quick! It would be an absolute miracle if I was ready to paint by then. No biggie. I’m still going to push hard through the finish. If it runs into March, I’ll still be pumped!

Not sure how I haven't seen this before.... Amazing work! looking forward to see how this looks when its done.

I have built smaller projects, at the beginning always fueled by ambition and motivation but those usually wane, and if they aren't replaced by determination and discipline the projects never get finished. You must have a shit ton of determination and discipline lol.
