PaceEdwards SwitchBlade

Has anyone ever used the PaceEdwards Switch blade? I want it because you can easily remove the canister and be able to fit more things in there but from i understand there is no locking mechanism. From what I understand the only way to open the tonneau is by having the bed open, so theoritically if you have your bed locked, its locked as well.

Anyone have any opinions on it? If you have any other suggestions please let me know and yes price is a factor as well.

I had the Pace Edwards jackrabbit and it leaked really bad. Pace Edwards support was terrible. I was lucky enough that autoanything let me return it without to much hassle for a credit (would not refund) and i used that to get the retax one mx which was a really solid cover.

Not the same cover but looks to be a version of it without the lock.

They told me they are not designed to be water tight then stopped responding to my emails lol.

I had a Pace Edwards on my gen 2 and it was rock solid. So much so i got that jackrabbit for my gen 3 but had a terrible experience with it.

I wouldn't recommend this cover.

 

My switchblade had been on my truck for about 5 months and I just took it off. A pine cone fell out of a pine tree and dented it, making it essentially unusable unless I put tons of strength into putting it away and pulling it out. It was great when it worked, awful when it doesn’t.

If you do get one, get the reinforced aluminum one instead of the cheaper one.

I've gained much experience with Pace Edwards retractable covers + Retrax retractable cover over the years. You are correct that the Switchblade does not have a locking mechanism but that it is essentially considered "locked" when the tailgate is locked. I think it boils down to what you are planning to store in the truck bed. The Switchblade is considered a "budget friendly" retractable cover. If you're looking for newer technology, ability to lock the cover in ANY position, and maximum water protection... I would recommend biting the bullet and paying a few hundred more for a Retrax. Not only is the cover going to be higher quality but it will also come backed with a Limited Lifetime warranty. You can pick one up with quite the savings which should decrease the price gap!
