Welcome to yet another build! Hopefully there will be at least a couple things folks will find interesting. This truck will be a bit of a do it all, and must remain fun to work and play with every day. It will occasionally go beyond the limits of its stock capacities, so many things will be reworked to handle the stress induced by the speeds and loads encountered...The end result will be long life.

    IMG_2435.jpg
    Some tentative plans include...
Increased cooling through an additional radiator and 2nd oil cooler
    Manual transmission cooler
    AWD T -case
Upgraded front brakes, something with a rotor around 355 x 36mm
    Discs out back
HD driveline parts, wheel bearings, cv axles, 9.5" rear axle
Suspension will see a HD +2" system designed to survive everyday New England conditions
    Fox 3.0" Internal Bypass Shocks
    Frame bracing and possible boxing
Power is up in the air at this point, but something will happen eventually

Things will move slowly, as I have two other projects going on right now. Have at it.

Side note. Manual trans cooler ? I'm out of the loop I guess. Inquiring minds would like to know more.

Simply a pump and cooler for tough conditions... most folks probably don't need one. With just over 2.5 quarts of fuel efficient MTF, I'm unconvinced that some towing near the limit won't place some serious temperatures inside that case... those cooling fins are not for show. Normally I reach for older proven oil weights, but with purported shift quality issues and splash lube, I'm leaning towards slightly increased capacity and a cooler to keep things happy.

what's the plan for this? Sounds like a hassle....but i see the value in it in other vehicles like the Tahoe

Definitely a hassle for some, but I like the size of the platform, and enjoy designing/building things. My wife drives a 200 Series Land Cruiser, so a Tahoe type platform is already in the fleet.

Let's spice it up early. Anyone like titanium valves? They weigh a smidgen under 30 grams, stock intake valve are about 50 grams.

Fox 3.0 internal bypass all broken down for R&D. This unit is for the front, has an 8" stroke and base valve which really ups the damping capabilities.

Looking for better inner CV Joints? These cross groove units are similar to the 1st Gen Tundra units, but have a 30 spline stub... looking at a couple others, too.

Where did you buy them and how much did they cost? Have you installed them yet? One of the main reasons many people go with titanium is to increase the red line. OV tune has a tune which increases the red line to 6800 rpms but with titanium valves you should be able to get to 7500-8000 rpms safely. I am also considering going with titanium valves as well. Good luck.

Lol, I wish! it will be a bit before I build an engine for this... my truck only has 400 miles. Also, I already have at least one engine to finish building, and possibly a second to start, before the 2GR.

Anyway, the valves are parts bin engineering at their finest, they come right from the Lexus 2UR-GSE, which shares valve train parts and architecture with the 2GR. They can be purchased for roughly $13 each. Yes, you read that correctly. They use the same seats and valve guides as the steel valves.

No real need to push the engine much past 6800, though I've seen the cars with the 2GR pushed to 7200. The ports and cams just won't support the flow, never mind the wear on the lower end. I will possibly go lighter on the spring rate with these.

After doing a quick search I found out that the 2UR-GSE engine does indeed have titanium intake valves which makes sense since they don't get as hot as the exhaust valves. Where did you find them for $13 each?! I might buy them tonight and even if they didn't fit I could always sell them on eBay. Our heads can be ported and polished to increase flow. The intake and exhaust manifolds can also be ported and polished so it shouldn't be a problem.

Here are the F valve numbers, just run a search to find a dealer to purchase through. The second gen engine received Ti for the exhaust, too. I'll be adding more info shortly.
    Intake part number 13711-38050 $13 - $14
    Exhaust part number Stainless 13715-38080 $24 - $25
    Exhaust part number titanium 13715-38090 $24 - $25

Interco Super Swamper SSR in 35x10.50R17. While they measure at a true 35" diameter, the narrow 9" tread width and 10.5" center section will make integration into the wheel wells a bit easier. Careful choice of offset and modified suspension arms will keep them tucked in.

As much as I would love to run the Swamper, there is simply too much daily driving to be done at this point. So, for now, I'm dropping back to a milder MT in a 34" 285/75R17 size.
