Oh ok I see what you are saying, and rightfully so to classify the travel as the shock simply functions based off its environment and geo. Anyway, so yea man when you start to enhance your stuff to the maximum, I get the vibe some folks just wish they went LT from the start. That said though, I do believe there is more maintenance stuff to do with LT simply because of the extended geo vs the stock geo that the truck was originally designed to some degree to handle.

Damn I wish you could fit a rear shock relocate on on a 2nd/3rd gen rear with just some additional offset. I was hoping someone would have managed it in this thread but it looks like even with a 2.0 won't fit without a 1+" wheel spacer.

There is no space, otherwise I would have done that. Would you rather bend your shocks around your frame so you can avoid spacers like virtually all of the "cool" Tacomas run?

Ahaha, shock relocates look really cool though lol. I'm jsut lookign for a little more capability without building a full out desert truck (as I don't live in the desert). My concern with spacers is that your tire is now way outside the fender and you're likely to get pulled over.

Maybe one could bend their frame around their shocks ;)... however I suspect notching a Taco frame is a bad idea. Spending big dollars on good shocks that don't offer much additional travel doesnt seem worth it.

Does the issue come from the tire tilting in under articulation? If you were more interested in down travel and just wanted to retain stock up travel could you limit the up travel and prevent the issue? obviously the up travel is half of the benefit but at least you get half without having to jump to full LT. There are lots of stock geometry trucks with 2.5s and 35+" tires, can they get away with it because there isn't enough articulation to tilt the tire in significantly?

Spending to much time looking at LT set ups on the internet is not healthy lol

Edit: Settled down and I think I have a plan. I'm going to do 2.5 fronts and set them to about 1-1.5" and use the hammer hangers and a leaf pack (not sure if I want to go SOA or SUA yet) to match. Put it all on with the stock rear shocks and see how bad my poke is with the 17x8.5 -12 wheels and 285/70s and how much space I have. At that point, I'll decide if I can get away with spacers and do a relocate or if I have to run a stock location shock. I could always add the relocation later.

how much space between the wheel and frame do you need to run the archive relocation?

You're right it can be a slippery slope. I don't have to worry about wheel poke in NY.
Front long arm +2 mid (not long) travel is desirable, which would pair fine with 1.25"-1.5" spacers in rear only.

Shock relocation is not needed for everyone, but try to get 10" travel if you're dropping a grand on 2.5" pair for rear.

I recommend staying spring over, and the stock springs ride quality rocks with HH, droop is not improved much with stock springs.

    About halfway done...
If your thinking of staying with stock shock location check out the Tundra option.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2007-tundra-rear-king-shock-upgrade-on-tacoma.537083/
This is the route I chose after deciding to pass on the relocation. If my numbers are correct I will get 10.13" of travel at the shock. I had to custom order the setup to get the Heim joint and reservoir hoses modified. Should have them in about a week.

Thank you, bookmarked that to take a look at it. It does look like people are sneaking 2.0 x 12"s in the BAMF tower with just offset. (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/b-a-m-f-2nd-gen-rear-shock-relocation-kit.233021/)

It appears to be a little slimmer and meant for a 2.0 instead of a 2.5. If you can get 10.1" if shock travel out of a 2.5 tundra rear that might be more practical. Not sure if the extra dampening of the 2.5 vs less dampening but 1.9" additional travel is worth it or not.

These trucks are way more complicated to lift than Jeeps lol.

I’m debating between 12 and 14” rear. I do want a new leaf pack, the Dakar’s I run now give me an almost 11” droop.

Should I do 14” rear? The work involved seems to be the same.

So forgot about this thread; I basically have the 2nd kit that Dmz made almost the same as this one (for the 6 ft bed)
This was done by Tim @ Dmz back in 2016

Yeah I'll be interested in the numbers. Particularly up travel, if there are any limitations.

I’m Sure this goes without saying, but relocating my shocks will void factory and extended warranties? I might want to cancel the extended warranty and get some of my money back?
