Long story short, Toyota is replacing my tires up to $1000. Anything over that I have to pay out of pocket. Now, I like my OEM tires, and those would be covered, BUT...do you think its worth it to basically look at this as an upgrade opportunity and get something better?

These are my choices. They are the ONLY ONES to choose from as they have to be supplied by Toyota:

At first thought, the Michelin Defenders LTX A/T are probably going to win for just an overall upgraded ride experience. (note: i do just a little offroading, specifically when Im in VA fly fishing or hunting in the mountains).

I should also mention, anything above the $1000 I have to pay out of pocket the diff.

    I'd go ltx a/t2

They'll be more than sufficient for your needs, good on road and should last a long time.

Good call and technically an upgrade from OE? This is what I'm leaning towards. Do you think there would be any performance changes or appearance changes?

I ran a set on my second gen and had zero complaints after thousands of miles. They still looked new when I sold the truck. Pretty much the same use case you have.

    Michelin!

If you do more off roading and don't mind paying a little extra get the KO2 ... but those Michelins are one of the best tires ever made.

Why are they replacing your tires?

Of the options listed, I have had the best experience with Michelin and Yokohama.

I want to go with the michelins, but feel like when will the opportunity to get KO2's for 300 bucks out of my pocket ever surface again?

Have you looked at Falken Wildpeaks? I was in the same boat and was ready to spend $1200 on tires. I got the Falkens shipped to my door for $500 from Discount Tire and they come with a 50,000 mile warranty. I live in the midwest and at 15,000 miles they are barely worn, no humming on the highway, and absolute beasts in the snow.

Definitely check them out. The tire shop I had mount them told me that the Wildpeaks are being ordered for trucks more than any other tire by their customers too.

Unfortunately for him, the Falkens are not an option in this case.

don't get the TKO's they look cool and are a little better price but youll regret the ride and your performance and MPGs will be hurt cause they weigh a ton, MICHELIN all the way either one

Why are Falkens not an option?

And I got them on a winter special last winter before Christmas- big discount and buy three get one free. I got 285's by the way! 265's would have been even cheaper.

I think the OP is going directly thru the Dealership and all the tires they offer are in his list above
