I’m ready for my first oil change and bought some tools. Wonder where to buy oil filter, oil drain plug gasket, synthetic oil and other related parts? Mobil 1 oil seems reliable. I looked the parts numbers online. Amazon sells almost everything, but some reviews mentioned that they are not genuine OEM parts even the descriptions say so. Is dealership the only place we can trust?

Usually when I get filters on Amazon they come with drain plug gaskets.

i would click on the link and ask question, is the wrench metal ? if it is metal should be good to go.
the filter is on tight and when unscrewing it is hard to turn for about 3 rotations=normal.

I have a cast aluminum filter adapter I bought at autozone a few years ago. It works fine.. sometimes I need to tap on it to get it to come off the plastic canister. I normally buy my filters and gaskets off Amazon. I have been getting better proces on engie. Oil off Walmart.com.

This forged aluminum filter wrench seems to work well for $13. Https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M7RWORF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8R.sCb3CQ06ZG
Filter and gasket are around $5 from dealer. Pennzoil has $10 rebate for 5qt oil jugs which makes them less than $15.
All makes for a cheap oil change.

One thing to keep in mind... The small plastic drain that snaps into the oil filter can make quite a mess. Consider setting it into an old glass bottle (wine, etc) and use the bottle to shove it into the filter housing...oil will drain into the bottle. Haven't tried it yet but the video online looked slick.

I just bought parts at Amazon to change oil a few days ago. I almost went with this one stop piece, but looking further it seems the filter tool is cheaply made -someone posted pics of it broken and twisted at ratchet being it is not forged. I bought the $24 tool Motivx filter tool itself as it seemed like a quality piece and many good reviews. Will see when delivered. I'm only doing the first one soon being I'm on the 4 year dealer oil change plan so it will be used more after that. Who knows, I may not like the dealer oil change experience and just do them myself

I’ve seen Mobil 1’s ow-20 5 qt sells for $40 in Advance Auto Parts. How can you find the oil so cheap?

Looks like Motivx is the best choice based on reviews

Just a small point of order on this whole "OEM" thing... Toyota doesn't make oil, oil filters, or a lot of other "OEM" components. They buy large quantities from Manufacturer 'X', likely, People's Filter Manufacturing Works, #3, Beijing. The only thing that is close to "OEM" is the custom packaging which says, "Toyota" vice "Subaru", "Ford", or "Acme Auto-parts". The filters will meet a series of specifications produced by Toyota engineers, but so will a hundred other brands. In all likelihood, if you bought ten filters on Amazon, a good percentage of them would have come from the same factory as the "Genuine Toyota" part. In short, for general consumables such as oil, filters, etc, anything that meets the specifications and comes from a reputable name (Fram, Mobil, etc) will be absolutely fine, and likely cheaper.

Good find! Just ordered. I have had both of my free oil changes completed already and I’m creeping up on 30k and will be doing it myself. Thanks!

Walmart usually has it for $24 and the Mobil 1 offers $12 rebates a couple times a year, I snag a couple and always have extra on hand.

Pennzoil Platinum is usually around $23/ 5qt at walmart, then you upload receipt to their website for $10 rebate. Mobil 1 will probably have a rebate sometime this year too.

    Edit: Pennzoil rebate link:
