Surprisingly little force can cause that damage. Also remember that the Tacoma has two type of frame. The sliders would keep it from hitting the bodywork

for my repairs (there was a ding in the front quarter panel too from a branch) nearly $10K in repairs (Canadian funds... so $7750 USD)

The future is now. My insurance is through USAA. They have an option to receive a text message on your phone and to use the link there to go to a website where you can upload VIN, odometer, and photos, and they have an appraisal in under 4 hours.

I already have a check on the way minus the deductible. I've got an appointment next week to get a full estimate from the local body shop. Wow.

Yep, definitley the magic words.
I've totaled 2 of my Dads' vehicles after he told me that.
Most recently (july), I (Tundra) was stopped at the mailbox delivering mail when the white SUV (approaching from behind) struck a vehicle head on, flipped on its side, and then struck me while it was sliding down the road. Luckily minimal injuries all around, I wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was sitting in the passenger seat so I hit the dash and was a little bruised up.

And the first one, 2017. Uncontrolled intersection, headed south at 55MPH with right of way, late 90's explorer turned across me (turning west from northbound lane) with almost no time to brake, hit them at 50, totaled both vehicles.
Explorer didn't have insurance, and 3 children in the back seat were not belted in, no major injuries but some of the children lost some teeth, unfortunately last I heard no citations against the driver for not belting in the kids.

The comment starts with totaling two of my dad's trucks. Honestly i quit reading after that. Sounds like two people didn't learn.

lol, maybe you should read before commenting. Neither one was his fault, the first he was literally just parked and someone hit him.
