Thank you, crashnburn80, for preparing this for us. Real data, without a hint of condescension.

    I really appreciate it..........Frank

I wonder if the folks at Power Bulbs realize the good that @crashnburn80 is doing for them? Either that, or he's got stock in GE Lighting :) :)

There are several companies I have contacted and interacted with that get a heads up that they will see a surge in demand, but they are not one of them. Through the collective buying power of TW members we have been know to wipe out supplies of good products, that even Amazon cannot keep pace with. My personal favorite is continuously wiping out the Gy6.35 HIRs (a gardening bulb) and everyone commenting on Amazon about how they are the best backup bulb upgrade seen on the reverse light thread on TW, so much so that Amazon reclassified a Gy6.35 gardening bulb I had linked in the thread as an Automotive bulb. No Amazon, it is a gardening bulb.

I had the standard XD 4300k kit installed for a kit a week before I pulled it. I thought the light was too blue still and had lots of glare in blowing snow. I replaced it with the GE +130s and I feel like they have similar output and performance on the road. You’re not missing anything imo.

HIDs still produce a good amount of short wavelength light, which is what causes the glare off rain/snow/fog in the air, though they are not nearly as bad as LED. Check out the charts below comparing the GE bulbs to the XD HIDs you previously ran. If you drive in snow a lot, it might be worth considering the Lunex H9 +80 Plasma Gold bulbs which further reduce short wavelength light for better poor weather performance while having almost the same output level as the GE +130s.

Added a few updates to the thread including color temperature graph which I initially forgot to include, links to the ultimate H11 wiring harness as requested, the missing photo of the HID vs LED output shot and better pictures on the effects of side-firing LEDs in a halogen housing.

So I’m moving to the GE +130 for LB.. would you recommend the Lunex +80 H9 over the OEM HB?

I have a few other performance H9s coming in that should offer improved high beam performance over the Lunex +80. I’d wait a week or two till I have the results.

I found the GE +130 on Amazon and also saw an osram +150 offered in h11. is the GE still superior or is the trade off lifespan?

You would think the +150 would be better, but I think they went way overboard on the performance robbing blue coating. Their performance was disappointing.

Oh WOW! that difference in lux is far greater than I expected... and favoring the underdog (on paper). I really appreciate that you've already empirically measured and compared the two!

The extent of the difference was a surprise to me as well. I have built a standardized test setup and all my results are saved in a database, so I can easily pull up and compare any 2 light sources that I have tested on the rack. It is exceptionally convineint.
