Just do some reading. The OVTune alpha release thread has all of your questions answered probably. Just have to put in work to find them. Dont fill up his inbox with a bunch of random questions that he has already provided answers to numerous times.

Sometimes I think you all are driving a completely different truck.

Mine has plenty of power there when I need it. I have the AT and experience 0 shifting issues, yes it shifts, it's a transmission with gears what do you expect.

Do I wish it had more low end torque? Maybe but 265 ft lb torque had been fine for me this far. I know I'm not driving an f350 diesel.

Also I average about 21 mpg on my commute (combo residential and freeway) that's a 4x4 v6 AT. Of course I dont expect this on hills or fighting wind, I just drive with the engine/transmission instead of try to fight it, it's the same with any car I've previously owned.

I feel for people who buy an expensive truck and then have all these issues, I'd be mad and feel duped no doubt. One thing about the tacoma that others have mentioned is that it's a niche vehicle and definitely not designed for the general public imo. For example I would never recommend it for the older folk because of the low seat height and narrow steering column -my grandpa had a very difficult time getting in mine when I drove it up to his place a when I first got it. It's definitely not for everyone just like wranglers aren't for everyone. You wouldn't buy a wrangler and then complain that the ride is too rough would you? (Actually they way some of you talk on here I actually bet you would )
Anyway if your complaints are regarding a flaw in the truck then I feel for you and want to know more, but if you're just complaining because the tacoma is not a $60k Lincoln navigator then I have nothing to gain from your posts.

The ones I laugh at the most, are coming out of a Jeep, saying how much better driving and more powerful the jeep was, blah blah....

I laugh, as that is beyond bullshit. The best engine in the JK was around 290hp, and peaky as well.

Either way, its the friday fun thread... and it is now saturday..... time for something more constructive....

But but, the 4.oh drives so much better and I’m burning rubber while towing 10,000lbs and other vehicles drive so much better and ride so much better.

The present runaway success of the Tacoma is solely because of the 3rd gen. The third gen is why they are working double-shifts and building a second Mexican plant to just make Tacomas. The public never took notice of the second gen, and no one cared about that truck other than “Toyota people”. With the launch of the 3G, suddenly everyone wants one, and they can’t make enough of them.

If this truck is a fail, as OP seems to think it is, why after 4 years on the market is the demand still accelerating? Answer: The 3rd gen Tacomas are awesome trucks. People can find ways to complain about anything, and they do.

New owners coming in watching to many @Rob Daman videos wanting a lifestyle that they just dont enjoy.

The tacoma is versatile truck and has the ability to fill many needs you might have.

But, some of these people buy the truck and realize that it isnt a f150, and it isnt a hybrid. So they leave disappointed complaining about what the tacoma isnt instead of praising it for what it is.

I agree. The Taco has always been a “Swiss army knife” type vehicle. Good at a lot of things, but not great at any one thing. It’s chameleon aspects are it’s true strength

Pretty good on the highway (but not great, kinda noisy)
Pretty good for hauling people/family (but not great, kinda cramped)
Pretty good fuel economy (but not great....could do better in an F150)
Pretty good off road (but not great....departure angles and forward visibility are limiting factors)
Pretty good for road trips (but not great....seat comfort is questionable)
Pretty good for towing (but not great....full size FTW)
Pretty good for driving around town (but not great....easier to park a civic for sure)
Pretty good on tight trails in the woods (but not great, a Jeep or a dirt bike FTW)

It’s the ultimate “generalist”. That’s what I like about it.

I think you're right, I think there are a certain % of people who see these guys in YouTube or Instagram with their decked out rigs, ready to broverland and think how cool it looks. Never really bother to do any research into the actual truck.

I think they don’t really research camping either. They think “overlanding” somehow doesn’t involve getting dirty, doing dishes, dealing with mosquitos, and a moldy RTT. They buy $1000s of upgrades and gear and head out for their first night away from the city. When they realize they are not “men of the wilderness”, and dislike the discomforts of the outdoors, they take their beta-rage out on their Tacomas: “I could be out in the mountains snapping Instagram pics if it wasn’t for the way this transmission operates”

X2....however, on the road without cruise, I can typically get 22.5-23 MPG. More than I expect. However, my father (95) fits just fine, just does not like not having his own Tacoma...drives a 20 year old Corolla. Does not think he can live long enough to take advantage of a new truck 3 year warrantee!! Love those greatest generation folks!

Yup. I took a guy from work out camping with me once, he was all set and ready to get into the "overland" scene. Pricing out crazy gear and everything. Me, I'm more of a throw the tailgate down and sleep in my bed or throw a cot down kind of camping guy, with a tent on backup. Have the essentials to be comfortable, decent chair, fire, good book and some beers.

It was pretty obvious pretty quickly that this guy had no interest in actually being in the outdoors, which is fine. I still give him shit to this day saying he owes me a cut of all the money I saved him by not buying all that crazy priced gear he would have never used.

Did you get the new Tune? It fixed most of my problems with my Manual Transmission.

There are plenty of complaints about this engine and transmission (both MT and Auto). In fact, there is a thread on this topic nearly everyday.
