Does any one have experience with DIY bedliner for the 3rd gens? A local line-x distributor told me that since 3rd gen tacos have a composite bed theres extra prep time. He ended up quoting me $425, when normally it would be $350. What exactly is the prep for this? Also, is there a vendor for inferno colored bedliner? How much should you use? Any info is appreciated.

I’m not trying to talk crap, just asking, but why do you want a bed liner? Our beds are already composite so it’s not like the scratches will cause rust. I threw an oem bed mat in there to keep things from sliding around and I really like that. Also protects from scratches if that bothers you.

Idk where I picked up the idea that the composite is not all that strong and it would benefit to get real bedliner. Im going to be carrying some rocks for a landscape soon and was a little bothered by the thought of it maybe ruining it.

I would not try any kind of liner on the composite bed, don't think it would ever stick correctly, buy a Toyota Bed Mat and call it a day.

The composite bed is slick, therefore I would suspect a lot of sanding to rough it up, then some sort of adhesion promoter or something along those lines would be needed. I just recently got an OEM bed mat and that was the best thing ever.

Yeah man. I would just get a bed mat as use that. I hauled a bunch of rocks and mulch with it and it worked great. And a side benefit of it was, I just yanked the mat out and swept it off and my bed was perfectly clean. Plus, the composite bed flexes a little so I’d imagine the bed liner would crack eventually.

I have carried countless loads of cord wood, cobble stones, bricks, etc with no problem. Coating your composite bed with anything is a complete waste of money.

IIRC, they have to spray a special primer over the scuffed surface. LineX typically relies on mechanical adhesion. Plastic needs help by way of chemical adhesion; thus the special primer.

Use heavy duty tarp before loading rocks and other crap that can scrape the bed.

A bed liner would be a complete waste of money IMO. A bed mat as others have suggested would be a better option, even though it maybe subject to theft in an open bed. I suppose it could be screwed onto the bed, just need to be careful when/ were to drill.
Or alternately, a piece of plywood may also last for a little while.

I wouldn't worry about the bedliner the composite bed is tough as nails. I hauled all the rocks that went into this creek embankment project in mine and it didn't hurt it one bit. ;)
