It was a lot of fun but I honestly enjoyed the Ford Galaxie 429 Nascar engine more. That thing would burn the tires at almost any speed. My grandfather gave it to dad. It was super rare because it was a 4 door with the 429 Nascar engine that he special ordered. It had about 3000 miles on it. No one believed me when I told them what engine it had but when we popped the hood there it was. Papa said if you pay enough you’ll get whatever you want.

We used to burn the tires (lived in the country with nothing better to do) on it and compare which one would do the longest burnouts. Stupid me at 15 didn’t realize that tread didn’t last forever so we started swapping the tires around hoping dad wouldn’t notice. He came home one day and called me outside and said “son, you know this car is rear wheel drive so why the h@%@ are the front tires bald?” Man I got ground for a really long time and had to work to raise tire money. Looking back though it was still totally worth it. I wish we had that car back. It was green as an apple and ugly yet beautiful. The perfect sleeper car and it would dust the new Z28s.

My neighbors, Dave and Peggy, have a '63 Impala SS 409 4spd. Dave bought this car new in '63. He and Peggy are the first and third owners. After he and Peggy got married and started a family they made the tough decision to sell the car and get something more practical. They kept in touch with the lady who bought the car and in the late '90s Peggy began trying to buy it back from her. Without telling Dave.

It took her several years but finally the lady reluctantly admitted she was never going to do anything with the car and agreed to sell it. Peggy surprised Dave with the car on their (I think) 40th anniversary. It was a basket case, but they spent the money and had it restored, with some upgrades. The car was originally a chocolate brown but at first the guy restoring the car tried to get them to paint it another color saying "You can't take a beautiful car like this and paint it brown" Dave insisted though and it turned out fantastic.

Here's a couple of pics from our local car show a few years back.

And for the heck of it, a pic of my car at the same show.

So what's up with Dodge?? They seem to be very busy as of
late. The Hellephant crate engine, Redeye, Angel, and now possibly
the Super Charger? If that is comes to production
as shown I might be in the market for that one.
1000 hp. Can't believe it will happen but . I have
longed for a 68 charger for many years. Hard to find nice
ones that fit within a blue collar workers budget.
