Posted this in another sub forum but I don’t think many people saw it. Just wanted to hear some other ideas or inputs to make it better.

If I was to make it again there was some stuff I’d do different. I started getting lazy and cutting corners just to finish the damn thing as it was taking me forever.

I like it, I went the same route as far as mounting when I built mine. Nice.

I like it except the strap holding the wheel to the base plate is redundant to the lug nuts holding the wheel to the top of the carrier. Also, you'll have to modify the rack if you get bigger tires. It looks like you have stock size spare, why relocate it if it's stock size?

The plate with the studs looks like it’s vertically adjustable.

My thought to the strap was to have the tire as solid as possible. It also keeps the weight down, a ratchet strap is way lighter than all the bracing/thicker material that would be needed to keep the tire from bouncing up and down and destroying the bedside. The mount has adjustable studs and should fit a 33” tire. And it’s for long trips, doesn’t hurt having an extra backup.
