Cant seem to decide which route to go on this one. The Sr will have lower miles and a few thousand bucks more but i do want to have the accessories of the TRD Sport. What would be considered in deciding between the two?

Look at the cost of adding what you want to the SR...factor in your capability of doing the work yourself vs. hiring it done.

    It's all personal preference.

Do you want a new truck or used. I can see you spending more coin on the sport but you will get more in the truck. It's all up too you man, they're both that same truck just have different stuff on them.

What year is the 3rd gen? Auto or manual trans? What is it about the sport you really like?

I bought a used TRD OR and know now I should have bought a new SR or SR5 instead. At the time the difference would have been fairly small (admittedly not fully accounting for depreciation, registration and insurance). But I've modified just about everything on my truck and really only the lockers remain.

The SR would be used and just comparing two vehicles right now online between 15 TRD sport and a 16 SR. TRD has 70k and the SR has 30k. About a 6k difference before taxes. Is the quality and performance of the 3rd gens a lot nicer than 2nd?

The TRD is auto and shortbed. Both are V6 and four wheel drive. I like the TRD because i had a base model 06 regular cab for a couple yeas and the TRD is everything that was offered for that gen and made me desire it since i had the minimal. I’m hesitant of buying the SR because I don’t want to have the minimal again but in a new generation, if that makes any sense?

You're comparing a fairly optioned 2nd gen with a base model 3rd gen. The 2nd gen sport will have more "nice" options. Really the SR is a utilitarian truck (it doesn't even come with intermittent wipers) so I'd probably go for the 2nd gen. That said if milage is more important to you and you want the late model, well then that will influence your choice...

I'd go with the sport myself.

Test drive the shit out of the 16, many people on TW complain about the auto 16’s. I am happy with my 17 manual.

If you're not going to do anything to the truck I would get the TRD Sport, if you plan on upgrading the suspension and wheels etc- get the SR

That’s what i was personally thinking and have read about the 16s having issues and what not. I remember what it was like wishing i had the TRD seats, options, fog lights, wipers, color matched fender flares and so on. I don’t really want to be wishing or wanting more with a truck again.

I will be doing the Bilstein lift again like on my 06 and upgrading to 265/70/17 or 285 with 17x8.5 wheels with either truck.

Yeah man especially with the 16 it's the first model year as well so there's always a risk there too...

I think the sport is the better choice here but again it depends on what you're looking for.

Thanks buddy i appreciate it. Been considering both for some time and eventually you need some one to help you weigh out the options but I’m still thinking. I’ll probably have to go do some more test driving and looking to find a good deal to pull me in a direction.
