I’m in the market for a shell, once I can sell my Bed rack and OEM tonneau.

It seems about 1000 is the going rate for a shell, but none I can find are already painted cement, or even black for that matter.

Is it pretty expensive to have a shell painted?

Are you better off just plastidipping Black or will it looks tacky?

    Thanks all!

Finding a used one is tough. Finding one in Cement tougher. A good paint job on a shell is going to cost you between $500.00-$1000.00. Just depends on how fussy you are.

Craigslist is the best place I've found to locate used camper shells. There is usually a few for sale around here,(MN/WI) on CL. Like jwctaco mentioned $500 to $1000 to have one painted.

Do not plastidip it black, it will look tacky. You’ll be ATLEAST $500 into a paint job, probably closer to $1k like someone else already said. You’re probably better off going new unless you find one that’s already cement.

As far as searching, just be diligent and search a few times a day. For my 2G I found a black Leer cap (I had MGM, but black wasn't awful for the short term) for $370. For my 3G I found an ARE cap in silver for $400.

Now that Cement is a normal color the chances of finding a cap will increase. There's always going to be caps for sale.

If you can paint it yourself, it’d cost you around $150 to do properly
