I have an '01 preruuner with a 2 1/2" lift. I'm going to be towing a pop-up trailer next week. On average, how low of a drop hitch should I use? Currently I have 3 1/4" drop hitch but I'm wondering if I need to go lower.

    Thanks,

    Johnnie

Im not sure where (height)your pop up rides but my trailer(6x12 haulmark) on my 05 DCLB w/ ICON resi and add a leaf rear uses an adjustable drop hitch at about 6".

I'm renting the pop-up so I'm not able to measure right now. I'm just trying to find out what everyone else is using. If 3 1/4" is not low enough then I'll need a buy a new one ASAP.

Ya, I'm waiting to hear back from them right now. They only have 2" drop hitches so that may not work. If my 3 1/4" drop hitch is too high, I may have to stop on the way home and get a lower drop hitch.

That's funny because I've read it's ok to have the nose up a little but I've mostly read that it's ok to have the nose down too.

trust me, its nose down for sure.

if you can't get the tongue height, just get the model #. then google it to get the specs.

    From http://www.yankeetoys.org/lee/hitch.htm

"This is a good time to address this issue, it seems to be a point that folks are not aware of and it is very important. All trailer manufacturers have a recommended towing height for their trailers. Usually the rule of thumb is level to slightly up in the nose, but NEVER down. An exaggerated nose up attitude or nose down can cause stability problems..."

However, I've read just about everywhere else that it's better to have the nose slightly down.

I just decided to go out and buy one of these. It was less than $40. I can use it on multiple cars since it's adjustable. It drops down 7 1/2" and rises up to 6".

I picked up the pop-up this evening and I'm definitely glad I got the adjustable hitch. Hardly any sagging in the rear. I had to use all 7 inches of drop. I was quite surprised how my 2.7 handled the weight. It brakes well and I can still get up and go.

I got 3 in of lift in the rear with 33s and a high clearance rear bumper. I need at LEAST 12in of a drop down. Can't find one anywhere...

Adjustable is always nice. I took it one step further becasue i have trailers with different ball sizes and added one of these adjustable balls

    works great for anything under 5000lbs mine came with 3 balls 1 7/8", 2" and 2 5/16"
