I think that video is hilarious, I know nothing about HAM but I've been thinking about taking the test so I downloaded that app you referenced a while back.

Anytime you want to nerd out or if you have any questions let me know. It's a blast and real handy. You're in a prime location too.

I frequently shoot the shit with TW members from WI and AL on the airwaves

No I mean there is 2 different types of clamps. There is "ear" or "ear less" clamps and they each require a different type of pliers. If they are like original Toyota's then they should be earless

They have been living in their apartment building for about 10 years, it’s up on the hill behind the Catholic hospital. I don’t remember the street. They just bought a house in Candia.

West Side! and Candia is a nice quiet town. The few kids from there went to my high school in Manchester.

Oh... hm... I just have the knipex ear pliers:
    https://www.amazon.com/Knipex-Tools...d=1548696227&sr=8-3&keywords=ear+crimp+plier,

I used it to put one of the clamps on from the OEM boot replacement kit and it seemed to work fine..

I guess I can buy the OTC versions of the tools you suggested.

I haven't dabbled in DMR yet and I have the same unit as you (V71 right?). Echolink, yes via iPhone. My latest kick has been HF in the house...

I should be good to go in March. Saving up now for an ft-857d . Not sure what I'm going to do about an antenna yet. Probably will just be operating mobile and I'll make some sort of mast reciever that goes into the hitch receiver

I have a vertical 8 band Cushcraft. Does OK. A 102' dipole is going to go in the trees when I get some stainless steel pulleys. Mobile HF... You'll either need a screwdriver antenna or one that you have to stop and adjust for each band. My HF rig is a used Yaesu FT-847 all mode 100W. Furthest I've hit so far is Saskatchewan and Boulder CO. I did hit Iowa this weekend. A dipole and better conditions will expand distance, so I'm told. I have yet to learn about digital and did see your write up on the Pi (I think it was a Pi). I'd like to be able to figure out APRS. The truck has the V71. I have a Baofeng 8H HT and the Yaesu noted above. Seems like every hobby drains the wallet.

Yup they all drain the wallet. Haha. And my mistake. I meant to say portable, not mobile.

The aprs bit is super easy. Just costs some money. Basically a Mobilelinkd device and you have full comms with tactical location and info sharing with anyone that within earshot.

We had APRS signal all the way up past Katahdin when we did the 200 mile camping trip in December. The TM-V71A is great for it.

When I get mine in March I'll have to let you know and try to reach out. I'm also learning CW as well. What a trip.

Figured I'd share my quarter-life crisis with you (also known as my wedding gift to myself). I figured go big or go home for the first tattoo...Next session will finish the stonework wrapping around my bicep and add color. First session was 7 hours in the chair. I'll post up the finished product for ya'll just for shits and gigs....IMG_4029.jpg IMG_4030.jpg

Is the other arm getting a hobbit, some dwarves, and a wizard? Or 4 hobbits, an elf, a wizard, and two men?
