I'm assuming it's because you can't hear emergency vehicles.

I only drive with 1 earbud in so I can still hear sirens and other stuff but I understand where they are coming from.

Yeah, a buddy expressed his concerns the other day about this too...
He idles around 98 decibels, and 95d is the limit at 2,500 RPMs

Also while riding your bike. Got a ticket for that in college. Most motor vehicle code allies to bikes as well. BUI included!

I thought 1 earbud was legal due to handsfree options. But having both earbuds was illegal? Interesting. Will look into that further. Only way to hear a phone call in the little car(with the top down, of course) is to have both earbuds in.

Crazy thing is....i got a "driving with headphones" ticket about 14 years ago in Fremont. I had finish a car project, a '66 ragtop. Been driving it with the top down but didnt have a stereo in it yet so i was using a ipod player with headphones.

Cop pulls me over and issues the ticket. No biggie, i understood. Cop was a big samoan dude and was cool to me but just enforcing the law.

I contested the ticket. Plead no contest so i could have my say in front of the judge. Explained how i thought it was an archane law but understood why it was established back in the days. But with the advent of hands-free ear buds and other stuff that blocks the ears....the law was outdated. And other blah blah blah...

Judge gave a smile and laugh and told me to go on my way...

PS: im no lawyer...but this was easy to beat.

You can tell what things are priorities and what things legislators just don't care about like the life safety things at are only a couple hundred bucks and no points. Instead, they make a noise complaint a points and excessive fine-as a motorcyclist, I find it insane that you're gonna get a $100 fine for talking on a cell phone...

I see SOOOOO many people driving without their headlights on around where i live (at dusk and night). And these are cars without DRLs etc... completely oblivious to the danger they are causing.
Never seen any of them pulled over by LE.

I live near several HQs for tech companies. Some of these peeps may write beautiful code but are inept when it comes to driving etiquette and responsibility.

Makes me want to roof mount a 50in led bar just so i can optically blast them and shine on their stupidity.

(Thx God this is a BS thread...cuz i got a bad case of the Mundays)

Ah, the no headlamp on while driving at night things.

Okay, finding my center, lowering my blood pressure, counting to ten, trying to find my happy place...

It boggles my mind that people don’t understand the difference between DRL’s, headlamps, Auto-on features and windshield wipers/headlamps in the rain.

Very few things get my blood boiling, but this is almost at the top of my list.

The fact that there’s even a need for auto high beams is disappointing enough.

I often notice Fords are the worst. Their DRLs are so bright that people mistake them for headlights and don't realize they have no rear lights. Drives me insane.

Also, I think the no headphones is pretty obvious. If you need hands free use speaker phone. If you're in a convertible or something too loud for that then don't take the call or pull over to do it.

Agree but I think BAR probably has alot to do with the exhaust law and the others are more from angry lobbyists. M.A.D.D types

...and so the ongoing battle continues!

I figured this BS thread would be a good place to shove this post.

    KO2 vs Duratrac
I know, I know; this has been discussed soooooo many times, and there's lots to read on it [I have been reading a lot] but I will be faced with the decision somewhat soon, and will be dropping from the 18"s that came on it, down to 17"s...

I've been happy with my KO2s so far, minus a fun one-wheel hydroplane at a speed higher than I'd like to admit, but am wondering what you local assholes think of the differences between the two. Let's just imagine a bunch of Bowman/UTC/MET/BRD type stuff, as well as typical highway (DD) use.
    Ready? Set? ....GO!

They might be influencers but they still don't write legislation or set fines.
