You mean being educated by twitter and facebook doesn’t count?

...^^^... I do Georgia 400 every other day and shift exactly like you do. Except sometimes I go into fifth on a long straightaway and stay below 3,000 rpms.

I mainly stay on the north side of town and spend most my time shifting between third and fourth.

After I learned the shifting pattern of the truck and the way it runs, I like it very much, this is my 12th Toyota truck.

At first, it gave me room for concern. But when I looked at the alternatives like a Colorado or a Nissan, I gladly adapted to the Toyota.

Now I am extremely happy with the 2016 SR5 V6 automatic. It is about 33 months old and about 24,000 miles on the clock.

Lift, big heavy tires, aggressive driving style... yep, I can see that combination equaling 23% reduction in MPGs, especially since the advertised mpg on the 4x4 models is achieved under controlled conditions (as it is with all makes and models). I don't know why you're disappointed.

On road trips (RGV to SA and back ~3.5 hrs) I keep it in 6th and use my foot instead of CC. It doesnt even shift on me. Keeping it in 4th sounds like horrible MPGs and not good for the truck if you as me. Have you had the TSB done yet? It helped my truck out a good bit with all of the obnoxious shifting.

With ECT on and in S mode, there is no reason the truck won't hold 5th @ 80. 0 reason or chance, unless you use CC, then all bets are off.

No major complaints on buying my 18 with auto transmission. I noticed it shifting funny. Took it back to the dealer. There was a software update on the ECM. Took care of the shifts and haven’t had a problem since.

Well, my supercharged V8 Camaro does get better gas mileage than my 2G Tacoma AC 4x4. Camaro - 23 mpg, Tacoma - 19 mpg. But the Camaro does NOT do as well in the snow, just sayin. But I just want to complain because I haven't purchased a 3G yet, and this is were all the fun is. "stupid transmission". awww, now I feel better.

That's it. I'm getting a new tinfoil hat, and going to call the dealership and complain about the transmission on the truck I haven't purchased yet.

I bet they call back with a TSB that isn't released yet... Damn you Toyata..always one step ahead.

35K miles in and I dont hate the truck but dont love it either. For the record my wife had to have it and its her daily driver so thats why we purchased. She likes the truck a lot more than I do but still has complaints and we will be selling/trading in next month.

Number one complaint is that the truck is just horrible for highway driving....like we avoid driving the highway and will just take back roads if we are in the truck. Other than being loud for a new vehicle it feels like it takes a constant effort just to maintain highway speeds. Take your mind off of it for a minute and all of a sudden your doing under the speed limit. Give it some gas, nothing. More gas, nothing. More gas and it down shifts like a bastard and the engine is screaming along toward red line. Speaking of red line listening to the thing scream along at 5K rpm going up Snoqualmie pass to get the the other side of the state makes me not want to take the truck. A motor with HP high in the RPM range and a transmission that always wants to be at 1500RPM is just a horrible combination for a truck IMO.

Even with the most recent updates the truck occasionally falls flat on its face when you punch it to merge onto the freeway. Not all the time.........just randomly. Sometimes you put your foot to the floor and the truck literally feels like it turns off. You literally get nothing for like 5 seconds until it gets its shit together and then downshifts to 1st or 2nd and screams along cutting off the person that 5 seconds ago you had a decent gap to merge in front of.

Aside from power plant complaints it just feels cheep for what it costs. The entire vehicle. The interior to me is a huge disappointment, cheap and plasticy....I wont even get going on the stereo or the gas door that I can see flapping in the breeze every time I look in the driver side mirror....

With that said the truck has been an overall good vehicle with no break downs or electrical issues. We obviously dont dislike driving that much as its not even 2 years old, is not a commuter vehicle and we have managed to put 35K miles on it. Mainly we have a newborn and I think the truck has just run its course as its difficult to fit 2 adults, a rear facing car seat and a German Shepherd in the truck comfortably. Still though im excited for it to be gone soon. Picking up a used GX460 and a small utility trailer which is probably what I should have done in the first place.

Too much to read. I gave you a like but then thought, with that much content, I might not like what you said. So then I had to unlike your post. Then I thought, maybe it’s a story, it might have a moral at the end worth learning, so I hit like again. Well then I read the first paragraph, and decided, this isn’t a story, so I had to unlike your post. Damn your long winded writings!
