So I killed my taco. She's a soggy taco now. I sunk it in the river on Christmas day. I was trying to get into a tight spot to set up camp and slid down some silty mud into the river. While working to get out I kept getting deeper. Long story short, she was submerged up to the hood and water got to the air box so I shut it down. Water continued to rise to the bottom of the steering wheel and above the glove box on the passenger side. the back seats were underwater up to the top of the subwoofer. The truck spent about 15 minutes in that water before being pulled out. I pulled the coilpacks and plugs and cranked the motor. There was water in one cylinder and of course no spark to the plugs.

My question is this: is it possible to repair the electronics for ~$5k or less? I know that I have to pull the interior out and replace the carpet and probably the seats and door panels. The dash will likely have to come out too. Has anyone done this or know anyone who has? I only have liability so it's not as easy as take the insurance money and put it towards a new vehicle.

Please save the smartass comments about how I should have had full coverage or I should have done this or that. I just want info on if repairs are possible and what issues I will have going forward. Thanks in advance. BTW, I did search for water damage repairs and only found stuff about leaks and such.

I'm in the southeast Phoenix valley. If anyone knows of shops that can handle flood repairs, please point me to them. I have gone to two shops and they refuse to even touch it.

You will forever be chasing down electrical problems, whether body side or powertrain side. I really wouldn't recommend it unless insurance will help.

I haven't seen any water in the oil so far. How much of the motor was underwater on your jeep?

Start by replacing ALL fluids. Oil, coolant, differentials, fuel , etc...I would even pull all fuses and relays from inside and under the hood fuse boxes along with spraying WD-40 in the fuse box terminals to accelerate air drying of the fuse boxes. Just park it in a garage for a few weeks. Best of luck with the repairs.

Best you can do is try a few repairs at a time (Trial and error) until you get it running again.

The shops said no for liability purposes, because the chances of your truck ever running again without constant problems is slim.Had a friend of mine do the same thing to his 95 Ford F350 7.5 diesel, and the shop he took it too could not ever completely fix the issues and was charging a fortune in repairs,my friend finally just told the shop to keep the truck as he refused to pay the ever rising repair bill, the shop finally gave up and junked the truck.
Your 06 Tacoma is now 13 years old so who knows.

The electrical is not your only worry but the engine as well.

Everything is trashed. Air bags in the seats and vehicle are even trashed. I think replacement of those is over $5k.

Like someone else said you are going to be chasing problems for a long time.
If you are very savvy I think this would be a project truck but certainly not a reliable DD in the meantime.

Next question: if I buy a 2nd gen prerunner, can I swap out everything to make it 4x4?

Not that we don't believe you and would want to grieve along with you, pics on threads like these are required. I want proof when I have to explain to the postal worker why I am stuffing a 50lb bag of jasmine rice in a drive thru mail box to send to a fellow TW member in need.

You are a glutton for punnishment aren’t you?

Yes you can do that and spend more than it would cost to just buy a 4x4 up front.

There are a lot of guys here who off road with prerunners.
