My friend, I have been driving forever. I have owned trucks with half the power you have and only had three or four gears. They were much worse that what you have. It all boils down to power and transmission of that power. The 4 cylinder does not have much power but it is cheaper to operate. You have to pick your poison.

Use the recommended settings from the owners manual while towing. Otherwise leave it in S5 and drive.

Gotcha. Well, this was my first truck so lesson learned. Next time the test drive had to occur on the interstate or no deal. Thanks for your imput.

What exactly are you asking for with these statements? You're saying that you only want constructive help but there is really nothing that anyone could say based on your statements. The truck will tow 3000 lbs without strenuous shifting, it will just never spend time in overdrive gears. When you say things like "jolting me back" or "downshifting issues" there is not much anyone on an Internet forum could give as advice. Your title and first post isn't exactly helping you either...

Extended cab 4cyls dont seem to have a problem. I got a feeling the extra weight from the crew cab is what's causing my issue.

If anyone wants something underpowered go drive an Tacoma extended cab 2.4L on the highway. 142hp you can maybe get over 150hp with the Fred Flintstone

Yep, proper test drives aren’t a once around the block drive. I check all phases of driving, from maneuverability in tight parking lots to constant speed interstate driving up/down hills... don’t be shy, you’re spending $40K, so you are fully within normal reasoning to perform a proper test drive.

They were concluding statements. I heard a lot from different people and I was making a recapitulation. Personally I don't give a dead dog's last shit how you feel about it. These were my issues, those were the comments, and that's my recap.

I would generally agree with that statement were it not for the fact that the 6cy isn't any better. This is coming from someone that owned a 2.7 as well as a 3.slow. Neither of those had the struggles that 3rd gen seems to have in either 4 or 6cyl configurations. I could accept that just being the way it was had I not owned a 3.4 that screamed like a raped ape. It amazes me the backward progression of the Toyota drivetrain.

What’s funny to me is someone is willing to publicly bash a vehicle they spent or are spending hard earned money on and perfectly fine with it. These type of people could find issue with a solid gold brick if you handed them one though I doubt they would be able to pick it up after finishing their soy shake. It’s a man made object. Live with it. I’m out lmao

Ah, now you are bring efficiency into the equation and that's not allowed when speaking strictly about power and shifting lol.

The weight difference between an Access cab and Double cab is fairly minimal, aprox. 115lbs.
